I need drivers for sony vpl-ex4 - Sony VPL-EX4 Projector

this is easy, that OUT OF range means
the PC sending video is sending and illegall higher resolution
than the projector supports (or even less, on this old junk)
the manual on that old projector is clear on that. max.
SONY VPL-EX4 2007, 13 years old now.
and back then projectors STINK !
your manual shows this, and stinks.
what stinks worse is no matrix of legal H./V resolutions shown in the manual. (shows only 1)
so set the PC to 1400 x 1050 and do not use others . ok.
and 60Hz, are you in USA? not stated country.

some models has another NOT. However you must read your owner manual or download from www. fitness.manualsonline.com or www. retrevo.com

You can make all sorts of adjustments. From your description, it sounds like the contrast and brightness are mis-adjusted.

That's the link, to reset this unit, it seems you must hook, up with an RS232C cable, and "Talk" th the Projector, You simply hook up, using any terminal Program. such as, Hyperterminal. I think you need to get a manual.

I looked but could only find, pay for links, for the service manual. You really need this if you own anything it is worth any money, as in it is the information, the the engineers that service them, use to troubleshoot and fix, special codes, and settings the lot. So it is a must have.

open up the top case. the fuse will be on the power supply board right next to where the power cord plugs in. you'll need a continuity tester to test it. if it is blown, replace it with the exact size and type. if it is not blown, replace the power supply.
