Question about Breville JK135 Cordless Electric Kettle

Open Question

Breville Lightning JK145: Plug into socket, lights up blue: Power therefore going to appliance. Press "heat" switch - lights up both blue and red (purple effect), and no heating: Has the element burned out? It first showed these symptoms after the water had all been poured out and the switch (briefly) remained on "heat" before I turned it off. If element has burned out can I repair it? Or must I get a replacement kettle?

SOURCE: new kettle breville

There's several home remedies you can try: Try 50% "White Vinegar", 50% Hot Water or 2 Denture tablets in warm water over night or Baking soda in warm water. These remove the alkaline, minerals, and nitrates that build up on the surface. There is even a commercial product you can use to clean it. I can't recall the name but look in any supermarket, you should be able to locate it.

SOURCE: Spares for Breville Electric Kettle

Okay. I took the base off the kettle (made a special screwdriver). Saw that one of the contacts was loose on its 'swage'. Used a pin punch to re-swage it. Bingo! it worked.

My akura TV has switched itself off and every time I try to put it back on the blue light just flashes

Sounds silly, unplug the tv and any appliances in the same socket connected to the tv, plug the tv in on its own and just hold the power button for an extra second or two if this works, leave the tv on and plug the applications back in

Also some time water leaksdown off a solenoid on to a transformer that also can short out. This is something that should be done by a pro. Hope this sheds some light on the problem. tvharry

When I plug in my charger for my laptop the lightning bolt or the ring around the charge port doesnt light up....and my laptop therefore isnt charging....please please please help!

Whenyou connect the power adapter into the laptop, does the power LED light up? Ifnot then - The battery adapter or the adapter's power lead or the laptop's powersocket could be faulty. Check power adapter's DCplug that connects into the laptop power socket with a multi-meter, the voltageshould be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on thebottom of the adapter. If the voltage is zero or way below the voltage that isprinted on the label then the power adapter is faulty and needs to be replaced. If the adapter is OK thenconnect it to the laptop and power it up, then look at the power/batterycharging LED light and wriggle the power plug in the laptop's powersocket. If the power/battery LED light flashes and in a certain position thisLED light stays firm, then the power socket is either faulty or it has a drysolder joint where it is connected to the motherboard. This can be repaired but itrequires the laptop to be completely dismantled to get at this power socket andrepair. If you cannot DIY then I suggest you get a quote first.

I have a three way switch in a lamp, one red wire one black wire and one blue wire coming out off the switch, how do I wire off the switch?

Black is the AC power into the switch, and the others are the switched power leads out. Take a close look at the switch housing and you might see small markings reading L1 and L2 by the red and blue leads.

To wire the switch, use a pressure connector (wire nut) to connect the black lead to the incoming AC power. On a polarized line cord, where the plug has one prong wider than the other, the hot side is the narrow prong. The neutral side, which connects to the white wires from the lamp sockets, is the wide prong, and the cord usually has a ridge molded in.

The red and blue wires go to the sockets. (This kind of switch is usually used in three-socket lamps, so I assume that's what you have.) The red lead should connect to the black wire from one socket, and the blue lead to the black wires from the other two. The usual sequence is power off, L1 (red) on, L2 (blue) on, L1 and L2 on. So as you turn the switch (or press the button in a push switch) you get one light, then two, then all 3 on.

Make sure all your connections are good and tight with UL approved connectors and there are no exposed bare wires, and you should be good to go.

Won't heat

The Breville esp8xl has a wire connector to the heat chamber that can become loose through repeated heat/cool cycles. Opening up the machine, finding this connection, which was loose, blue wire at back of heat chamber, and tightening it fixed my problem.

Breville kettle blew fuse (trip switch) now won't switch on

If the 'neon' light is on, the power is getting to the kettle, so if its not heating up then the element must have broken.

This kettle has a little white trip switch inside the 'socket' of the kettle (not the base unit). If its not heating, light is not on and the plug fuse is OK, then poke the white trip until it clicks.

Have you checked the fuse[s]? You don't mention your location so I cannot comment of what protection devices that may be involved. UK has fused 13amp wall plugs for example.
