Question about Dell AS500 Sound Bar Computer Speakers

1 Answer

How do I take apart the speakers to fix a broken wire? The wire that connects the speakers to the computer is broken very close to the speakers themselves. I need to get the speaker bar apart to solder the wire back together. Is there a specific trick to doing this or is it just screwed and glued together?

A unit like this is probably not designed for disassembly or repair. Possibly the grill can be pried off and then access gained from the front by removing a speaker. Or possibly not. If you want to save this unit you may have to get surgical as far as cutting or drilling your way in. Keep in mind that you'll need to mend any openings you make in the case when you are done, to preserve the unit's acoustic properties. Epoxy may be your friend there.

SOURCE: can i add any speakers to my dell vostro 200?

No you don't. As long as you can plug the speakers to the green port on the back of the computer, the speakers are powered and the volume knob on the speakers is turned all the way up. You should hear sound.

Also make sure the sound is not muted in windows.

These housings are often glued together at the factory and are not meant to be opened. You may have to break it to get inside. If the wire to the voice coil is broken...really no fix, if the wire is bad between the case and the speaker you can probably fix it.

I fixed a similar problem I was having. It requires a little work.

Take out the four screws from under the broken speaker. Carefully remove the cover, separating the speaker from the base. The two are wired together so don't pull them apart with force. Then remove the single screw, which is much larger the the previous four, and separate the speaker from the top cover.

If you chose you can remove the wires from the speaker, they just snap on, but its not required.

What I found is the speaker issue is not with the wire or the power, but the speaker it's self. On the back there is a big round metal piece. On my speaker that piece was pushed towards the front of the speaker. When I looked at the good speaker, that big piece was all the way back. So I simply pulled it back and presto, instant fix!

I hope this works for you.

Wiring internal board of labtec computer speakers

The shielded wires are for ground, so they get connected together. Plug the wire into the PC and run some music. Then touch each wire to the others. You only have a couple of combinations to try...red-to-green and white-to-yellow, or red-to-yellow and white-to-green, . You can do this while the PC is one and music playing until you get sound thru the speakers. There virtually no current running thru the wires and you can't hurt the PC by doing this.
If the speakers use an external power supply, have it plugged in and working when trying these connection options.

Here's my problem: I have 5.1 logitech speakers. The plug where the yellow jack goes into the subwoofer seems to be broken. No sound coming from this speaker (rear left). The problem isn't in the cable...

2 possibilities, either the connection coming out of the sub has gotten disconnected on the inside of sub or that channel is bad on your amplifier in the sub. The only way to know for sure is to open the sub up and ck.

This is an internal speaker. Find the speaker pins on the mother board. Should be somewhat close to the front panel connections.

Phono lead connection.

Take it apart ind see if a wire is broken. You can use a meter for this. You could test the wires on another speaker also.
I can't fix this for you, but if I helped you get it fixed, please rate it as a fixya not a helpful rating. These ratings let me be allowed to help you and others in the future.
