Suddenly no picture only a black screen. The tv has power the little vizio turns on white i can hear the audio and change through the cable channels with my comcast remote. The vizio remote will turn the tv...

Look through the ventilation slits at the back of the TV with the room lights out. If you do not see white light light bleeding through the back, you have a back light failure. It could be the inverter circuit which lights up the CCFL ( cold cathode fluorescent lamp ). You will need professional help to replace it and could cost you about 70 to 100 $ to fix.

My new vizio m370nv does not permit adjustment of the backlight % as the manual suggests should be available to me, even under "custom". It also allows for ajustment of contrast, brightness,...

Often manufactures will tie backlight adjustment in with the brightness, You might want to changed the brightness to your desired luminosity and then correct the picture with contrast to your liking.

I have a mfg date 2007 Vizio VW37L HDTV10A turned on and there is sound but not picture

This can happen. are the lights on? if not, it most likely id the power source inside the tv itself. make sure your wall outlets are working properly as well, but if they are, then you want to get you tv fixed. this can be a relatively low cost repair, but shop around
