Thanks for the response. No I do not want to do this but the only other option is to have a tech. charge me more than $500.00. I did read where the inner spin basket may have to be replaced due to the corrosion of the aluminum spider arms. If you could give me the step-by-step instuctions I would really appreciate it an be in your bebt.

    Thank you,

Are you sure you want to do this? I'm not trying to discourage you, but if you've never performed this repair before it can be quite overwhelming. This involves disassembly of nearly the entire washer. To paraphrase: You will need to remove the top panel, back panel, drain hoses, the shock mounts, drive motor, and entire wash tub & spin basket assembly. Once the tub has been removed, you will need to separate the front and back shells. In some cases you will need to also replace the inner spin basket (stainless steel tub). Unfortunately, you cannot always determine the condition of the spin basket until the washer is comepletely disassembled. If you wish to attempt this on your own, I can give you all the steps required. Let me know.

Just wanted you to know that I haven't forgotten about your request. I'm working on a detailed write up for you at the moment. I need to research a couple of things. Is this a small front loader, or one of the full size models? You rmodel number would be very helpful. It can make a difference in how the door bellow is removed. Hopefully, I will get it to you before the end of the day.

Okay Dan, here ya go. This a rather lengthy read, but I tried to be as thorough as possible. I've done quite a few of these repairs and it is time consuming. It usually take a couple of hours to complete.

I had to post this in three parts because the write up was too long. So, you will have three links to look at:

Some other parts that may have to be considered when performing a rear tub shell replacement:

    - Rubber Door Bellow

    - Spinner Basket (if arm supports are damaged)

    - Front Tub Shell (if signs of internal damage)

    - Drive Pulley (can sometimes become damaged trying to remove old one)

    - Drive Belt (check belt during parts removal for wear)

    - Wash Tub Support Shocks (The shocks can sometimes break when trying to remove)

If you replace the front tub shell you will need to remove the door bellow and front counter-weights and install them on the new shell. If you replace the spinner basket, some do not come with the wash tub fins. Make sure you remove and re-install the old ones in the new tub if required.

Take your time and read through the instruction thoroughly. This is not a simple repair. If you have questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you. Post back with your model number if you require assistance locating parts.

Bearing on front load washing machine needs replacing (Frigidaire

You will need to replace the tub rear shell/bearing assembly (part # 131525500).
To do this, practically the whole machine will need to come apart.
To remove the drive pulley, remove rear cabinet panel. Remove the pulley screw and pull back on the pulley (you may need to giggle it as you pull to remove it).
For the shock pins, grab the open end with a pair of vise-grips. On the "pointy" side of the pin press the tab in with your finger (if you can't push the tab in slide a 9/16" socket onto it) and pull the pin out with the vise-grips (twist back and forth slightly as you pull).

A qualified tech could replace the rear shell/bearing in about 1.5 - 2 hrs. I can certainly give you more help if you need it, let me know.
Good luck!

Grime on clothes from washer

f the tub seal lets go water will weep into the tub bearing. This will rust the basket shaft and normally wreck the tub bearing. Once the bearings starts to get worn enough it usually gets very noisy. The tub bearing is pressed onto the outer back half of the tub shell assembly. Normally need to replace the inner basket/shaft assembly  and the outer shell with the tub bearing.
Sometimes the inner basket support will crack, this can give an clicking or banging noise as well.
Pictures of this job...
A sure indication was the brown junk/gookus leaking out if the rear bearing area and the belt has spewed it around in the drum that the rear bearing and seal was bad...

I had to remove the back panel. Undo the pump hose & water level hose, remove the 2 shocks, remove the motor, undo the front boot from the outer panel and remove the 2 springs to lift the whole assembly out from the back to work on it.

When my washer goes into fast spin it is very loud could it be a bearing?

If it sounds like it's growling or rumbling it's definitely the bearing.
The rear shell of the tub which includes the bearing will need to be replaced since the bearing is not serviceable on it's own.
It's going to get worse until it fails completely.
In the future, make sure you are using HE (high efficiency) detergent. About 2 tablespoons for a full load is enough.

This is usually an indication that the rear tub bearing is starting to go bad. The bearing is located in the rear shell of the wash tub and cannot be replaced. In order to repair, you would have to replace the entire rear shell because the bearing is actually molded into the plastic. This is common with front loader washing machines. Another possibility could be items getting caught in the rubber door boot and leaving rubber marks. However, normally this will be associated with a leak somewhere. Inspect the entire door boot and clean in behind the rubber. Inspect for any rips, tears, or places where clothes can get caught. I have experienced clothing getting snagged and actually pulling the door boot off. If the marks continue to show up on your clothes (they may even turn a brownish color) I would look into an estimate on how much it would cost to have the tub bearing replaced. It is not an easy repair, and it is not cheap. The cost usually runs around $500. I hope this helps.

Problem with front load washer

Are stains a brown rusty color? If so, this may be an indication that the rear drum bearing is going bad. The bearing itself cannot be replaced. You will need to replace the entire back shell of the wash tub. Hope you have a warranty. This can be an expensive repair. Let me know if this is the case.
