Does it eject? If not then its a power problem. If the disc tray does eject and load then it can probably be a lens problem First try to clean the lens with a lens cleaner CD.

If it still doesn't work then its a problem with the lens assembly and it has to be replaced. Good Luck!

CD-ROM, DVD, or other disc tray not opening Locking device or software installed First, verify no locking software installed that prevents the tray from opening. If you are unsure, reboot the computer and as it is booting up, eject the tray. If the tray can eject as it is booting, but stops working after loading your operating system, something is being loaded that is preventing the drive tray from opening. Programs used to burn CDs are a common culprit.
Bad eject button If you are running Microsoft Windows, open My computer, right-click the disc drive icon and choose the option to eject. If this ejects your CD-ROM drive tray, the button on the disc drive is defective, and it is recommended that the drive be replaced.
No power to computer or disc drive If you have recently installed a new optical drive or you have moved the computer, the power cable to the CD-ROM may have become loose or disconnected. Reseat the power cable to make sure this is not the problem.
CD stuck within drive If you suspect that a CD may be stuck within the drive, the tray needs to be ejected manually. Look for the small manual eject hole that ( not the head phone jack) located on the front of the drive. Unwind a paper clip and place one end of the paper clip into the hole to eject the CD-ROM tray.
cdrom.jpg
If CD-ROM tray opens part of the way, pull it gently to see if you can get it to open fully. If it cannot be opened any further, it is likely that the gears within the CD-ROM drive have become damaged or dislodged. But usually, a stuck CD is blocking the way.

Caution: If you are able to open the CD-ROM drive using a paper clip, we do not recommend continuing to do so. This is meant to be used as a temporary solution; the drive should be replaced.

What to do if CD or DVD stuck in drive? Note: This document is for disc drives with a disc in the drive that prevents the tray from opening. See our CD-ROM, DVD, or other disc tray not opening document, if the tray is not opening at all or doesn't seem to be getting power.
If the CD or DVD is not set into the disc tray correctly, it could be sticking up above the surface of the tray, causing it to get stuck with then tray tries to open. In this case, it may be possible gently shake the computer and move the CD or DVD into the correct place in the tray, allowing the drive to open. However, use caution when doing this, as you do not want to shake the computer too much, or you could damage other components.
If this is a desktop computer, you can prevent damage to the computer by opening the computer and removing the disc drive in order to shake or rotate the drive. When the drive is out of the computer, you can manually release the tray by inserting a paperclip into the manual eject hole.

cdrom.jpg
In the case of a laptop computer or a slot load disc drive, since the CD or DVD does not sit in a tray, it cannot be shaken in order to adjust the disc. If the disc is visible you may be able to move the disc a bit by hand, enough to allow the drive to eject the disc. Again, be careful in doing so, as you could damage the disc or drive in the process.
If you're still unable to get the disc out of the drive after following the above steps, it may be a damaged drive and should be replaced. If the disc in the drive is an important disc and you believe the drive is bad, the drive can be disassembled in order to remove the disc. In the case of a laptop or computer with a slot load disc drive, the computer needs to be serviced in order for the drive the be replaced and the disc to be removed.

My laptop keeps saying ntdlr is missing and wont start up what should i do

Check to see if you have inserted any DVD/CDs in the CD/DVD drive or any USB/External storage medium connected to the PC when it is booting. If yes, then try removing them and reboot

If no, then try using the Boot File Repair option on Win7/Win Vista installation DVD.

Disc wont even load up, disc drive used to work but done a system reboot and now not, tried changing disc drives and that doesnt work.

hi there, it may be that the drivers for your CD/DVD drive may be erased. Go of Acer's website and see if they have your disk drives drivers and install them.

CD/DVD drive on e-Machine T3120 reads disc, but won't write disc!

You can try going to Emachines website and update the drivers for that drive. If that doesnt work, it is possible the drive itself is going bad.

Have emachine T5212. Won't recognize when a disc has been loaded

If this happens for every disc inserted (make sure that it's not just a scratched or dirty disc.), the laser lens probably needs to be cleaned. Since this is a desktop computer, you can't get to the lens very easily. Open the tray and use a can of compressed air to blow out the inside of the drive. If this fails, you can buy a lens cleaner disc and try that. (Some manufacturers don't recommend this, but I've never experienced any issues with it. Just be sure that the disc is made for cleaning CD/DVD drives.) The final option is to remove the drive from the PC case, remove the cover, and GENTLY clean the lens with a q-tip and alcohol. If all else fails, optical drives are extremely inexpensive, and very easy to replace.
**Note:Removing the case from the drive will void any applicable warranty.

I have a cd/rw and a dvd drive both internal, plus a external dvd drive new,the external one was ok yesterday but now it tells me to put in disc, when it is allready in, and that applys to the other two...

Hi charles. It sounds like a Windows error and not the drives so no jumpers or firmware must be changed/flashed.

Instead try to go to device manager and unistall all the CD Devices. Then you have two options. Reboot and the system automatically installs the drives again.

Alternatively you can scan for hardware changes in the device manager immediately after you unistalled the devices.

Hope this helps.

My Computer Wont Read DvD's or CDs!

Is the CD drive display in my computer? yes

then clean up your CD/DVD rom for there is dust in it, specially on the lazer lens that let the rom read the CD/DVD.

If no, then; Fix some cable connection towards your CD/DVD rom for it was lessen.

If not fix the problem verify the disc if it is readble by your Rom. Please try another disc in your Rom.

if same happen, then maybe its time for a new CD/DVD ROM.

one last try:

try your new purcahse disc in another computer that is compatible with your disc.

on these matter i have identified two possible cause of your problems.

1. You CD/DVD (discs) maybe damage.
2. Your CD/DVD rom was not able to read.

Solution:

1. to sure that the DVD/CD rom is functional try other discs (Any discs that that is clean and no traces of damage.(if work on another discs so DVD/CD rom is good if don't work your discs is good)

if not solve the problem maybe your system had a problem. update me in case.
