Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console

1 Answer

The problem I've been having is with my Xbox 360. Recently, I removed my hard drive and put it in another console. I've been playing on the other console signed into my account via my HDD for about two weeks. I brought my hard drive home today and put it back in the original console, and my avatar did not appear immediately after I signed in, which I thought strange. I went into my profile settings and tried to edit my avatar, and it said that my console requires a system update, even though before I removed my hard drive from my console I could edit my avatar and change themes on my Xbox. After a few minutes, my avatar appeared, but I still cannot edit it. I have tried restarting my console, clearing my system cache and even putting in the games that required system updates to play in my disk drive, but nothing is working.

Thanks a lot to jomabug76. I updated my console last night and it works fine now. I don't know what the problem was, but the update helped.

When putting in Forza Motorsport 3 the console makes a lound noise, like the fan is on overtime when reading disc a lot louder than other games. Tried other games after and just low hum. Is it the...

Likely that for some reason the Xbox is having a hard time reading the disc and it is spinning the drive trying to search for files on the disk. If you aren't having the same issue with other games then recommend to resolve this issue then simply install the game onto your hard drive and the game will then only need to be accessed for verification only and the game will be played off your hard drive and not your disk drive. Here are the instructions for insalling a game to your hard drive:
Install Xbox 360 games on your hard drive from a game disc Note Installing an Xbox 360 game on a hard drive requires between 4 and 8 gigabytes (GB) of free disc space.
  1. Insert the game disc into the disc drive.

Note After you insert the disc, the default option is to automatically start the game. If the game starts, exit the game, and return to the Xbox Dashboard.

  2. From the Xbox Dashboard, go to My Xbox.
  3. Select the game you want to install.
  4. Press Y on your controller.
  5. Select Install to Hard Drive.

A progress indicator appears while your game is being installed on your hard drive.
Notes
  • Installing an Xbox 360 game might take several minutes.
  • Multidisc game? Install each disc to your hard drive.
Play a game from your hard drive
  1. Insert the game disc into the disc drive.
  2. Go to My Xbox, and select the name of the game you want to play.
Note The game disc must be in the disc drive, even though you have installed the game on your hard drive. The console will automatically play the game from your hard drive, but the disc has to be present.

I recently fitted anew cd drive to my xbox 360 but it will not play xbox 360 games as it sees them as DVD'S . I have been told that you have to follow an anti theft proceedure on the xbox 360 to rectify...

I hope you mean you fitted a new DVD drive into your console. All games are in DVD format and if the replacement drive can not read and detect dual layer DVD's then they will not be able to see any of the games you put in.

You can find cheap xbox 360 replacement drives at http://www.dascheap.com/replacement-xbox-360-dvd-drive-philliips-lite-on.html

XBOX 360 Elite won't play disc; says "reading" then "open tray".

If the console has never been opened to change the dvd drive then eather your laser lens or one of the 2 motors in the drive needs to be changed. 90% of the time its the laser lens. You cant just use any laser for the xbox 360. There are 3 different drives. Toshiba, BenQ, Samsung, so you have to see what drive model you have before you try to order one yourself. I repair these often with 99% success.
