The USB port is designed to support only memory sticks of up to 128GB, not external hard disks of 2TB. It says that clearly in the manual, page 13.

Can you record from a smart tv with arecording box

First of all you need to check if your TV supports recording. Some 2010 models do and most 2011 have it implemented. Look for stickers or logos such as:
  • USB Recording
  • PVR (Personal Video Recorder)
  • DVR (Digital Video Recorder

  • The following manufacturers support it in some of their models. Typically mid-end to high-end models. Check the manufacturer web site if you are unsure.
  • Samsung
  • Sony
  • LG
  • Philips
  • Panasonic
  • Toshiba
  • Sharp (only Time Shift pausing)
  • Grundig

    What you need

Many consumers have USB recording enabled TVs without actually using the function - simply because it requires an extra USB hard drive ou need the following:
    1. USB Recording: A HDTV that supports recording.
    2. A USB HDD: FlatpanelsHD uses a USB HDD from Transcend.
    3. Digital channels: Recording is only enabled on digital channels - not analog. You can record SD, HD and 3D.
Some manufacturers recommend USB hard drives with external power supplies but we have used a Trandscend USB HDD that takes power from the USB plug on all manufacturers' TVs without any problems. Manufacturers typically allow 1:1 recording, meaning that you will see no loss in picture quality.

How to set up USB Recording

Once you have purchased a USB hard drive and connected it on the back of the TV you can move on to "pairing" the USB HDD with the TV. Here is how to set up USB recording.

  • Connect the USB HDD to a free USB port on the back of the TV.
  • The USB hard drive now needs to be formatted (all data will be deleted).
  • Most TVs help you to format the USB HDD automatically but on some models you need to enter the menu and select format HDD (or something similar)

I want to copy an external hard-disk's HD contents onto a Panasonic Blu Ray Recorder

You have to search on internet for drivers which can support your computer and your Panasonic recorder. If this cannot help you to solve the issue, then you have to get help from your friends or relatives who have a different laptop from your laptop or computer. You can download those drivers in your hard drive and install in your computer.

    My hddr640e04xr is not detected

You don't need to have a driver for your external HDD to work.

    You have three possible problems:

    1. USB port (software problem) - outdated USB driver or with bugs

Try updating them via the device manager. Or you can try uinstalling it then scan for hardware changes. It will automatically reinstall.

    2. USB port (hardware problem) - try a different USB port.

    3. HDD defective - You may want to try connecting it to a different computer. If it doesn't work in a different computer then it should be defective.

I don't know why my external hard drive doesn't show up on my computer when it is plugged in. It is an Hitachi XL 1000 and I don't have the manual. Can you please help. Cecily

    Hi,

I suggest try to check if the usb port that you are using is working if its working try a different device just like usb storage device, check if the cable for your external HDD is also working, also try to use different usb port of the machine. Sometimes the external HDD is not receiving enough supply thats why its not working or not detected by the machine.

If you are using an USB external HDD storage to plug onto via the 1 USB port. Sometimes certain Laptops do not supply enough power to run the external device USB devices. You have to get a USB adapter with "double plugin" to plug in to 2 USB port. There are no software availiable to make it work if the power supplied to the external USB devices is insufficient!

    Hope it helps.

My external Samsung HM120JC 120 GB Hard Drive not responding

Not sure what could be the problem.
    There are many issues here.

    - Did this drive worked before?
    - If it did, was this your boot drive?
    - USB cable and connector problems
    - How is this connected to the drive?
    - Is it in a package that came with the drive complete, or you had to install it?

My two cents... Samsung and other Japanese drives are not that reliable and if it's new, return it and get a Seagate drive. They have five year warranty and much better drives.

    Samsung Pleomax SAM MD-205 driver?

It took me a lot of digging to try and find a driver download. You can try the UHD25-80GB driver (this is for Windows 98, but you can try to see if it fixes the problem): http://www.samsungpleomax.com/sup_03_01.asp?page=2&fcate=Driver+download&scate=Storage+Media&tcate=HDD&scateg=Storage%20Media&tcateg=HDD. Direct link to zip file: http://www.samsungpleomax.com/sup/cs/HDD-driver-2500-80GB%20DRIVER.zip

Also, specs indicate that you need USB 2.0 or 1.1. I had problems connecting via a 4-port hub (that was supposed to support USB 2.0) so ended up connecting directly via my computer USB ("Enhanced" = 2.0) slot, which seemed to work fine.

External hdd not detected in my computer but is in device manager

You probably still need to partition it, before you can even format it.
Try the disk manager in Windows.

In the start menu, right-click "My Computer" and in the popup menu, select "Manage".
One computer management comes up, select disk management and there you should see the disk. You can then create a partition and format it.

    Nope...

The eSATA ports are not configured in the device's firmware, and the USB 2.0 ports are useless except for charging your iPod or powering a USB fan. If you could connect an external drive to the unit, it would be partitioned with data encryption that can only be accessed by the particular DVR that formatted the drive. You can however stream local channels to a video capture card via the firewire ports but cable channels and DVR recorded programs would be encrypted. You can thank the MPAA for the grief...
