Question about HP DeskJet 5150 InkJet Printer

2 Answers

I have an HP Deskjet 5150 that will not print. Here is what I have done. Using a Windows 7 computer, which has not had this printer connected before, I plug in the printer first to the wall and then, after powering it on, to the computer via USB. Windows goes about installing the driver with no apparent problems. I then restart the computer as a just-in-case kind of thing. After the restart I try to print a test page which doesn't print. The printer lights do not change from their default state, which is a steady power light and no other lights lit. I check the print queue which shows the test page as printing. After about an hour of nothing I delete the test page and then try printing an image. Same as before the printer does nothing and the image just sits in the print queue. Just for fun I try something interesting by installing the printer on one of my linux servers. The install goes fine and CUPS sees the printer as on-line and ready to print. I then use CUPS to print a test page. Just like with windows nothing happens with the printer sitting there with only a steady power light showing. I have already left the printer completely unplugged and have also taken out and reset the print cartridges but to no avail.

The support given at the end of the link only helped to verify that the printer itself is the problem, not the computer or the OS.

If the new (or refilled/reman/compatible) HP 56, 57 or 58 ink cartridge refuses to work (i.e. blinking ink light on Deskjet 5000 series printer) or fails to complete the printer alignment following cartridge installation, then the ink cartridge either has a connectivity issue with the flexible printed circuit cable (inside unit where cartridge mates with cable), the rear cartridge contacts or cable contacts are dirty with ink residue, or the cartridge is suffering from marginal internal electrical performance. It is suggested you perform the TAP 43 DIAGNOSTIC PRINTER TEST to evaluate the ink cartridges electrical performance. Click here to see instructional video: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=2358
NOTE: For the HP Deskjet 5000 series printer models, when you get an HP 56, 57 or 58 integrated ink cartridge refilled (i.e. currently offered at Costco or Frys today) or if you buy a remanufactured/compatible HP ink cartridge, the ink levels are not initially reset. However, continuing to use an ink cartridge which displays LOW INK alerts is permitted by the printer, simply select OK, CONTINUE or DISMISS when these alerts are observed. It is possible to reset the ink levels by performing the procedure outlined on Inkjet411's site: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1915

Testimonial: "While both links led to good info you're a bit late, by 2+ years, to be of any help. The printer has long since been disposed of and a new one purchased. Next time check the date of the original post before working on an answer."

I need to download the driver for windows 98. i have a hp 5150 printer

Sorry, but the HP Deskjet 5150 is not supported in Windows 98, it does not have the correct usb drivers. Windows 2000 is the oldest operating system with support.

Wireless Dell laptop can't 'find' HPDeskjet 5150 Printer

this printer is (as per HP specs) only connected via USB or Wlan Print server.
Check connection using USB cable and be sure Printer driver are correctly working.
Check on Router your Print server IP address (Lock it out of DHCP)
Put both PRT and PC on same home network (normally HOME or MSWORK)
Put Printer server IP address into your printer properties/port tab/ IP.
OR check if you see your printer server in your Windows network/home network

My hp deskjet 5150 will not stop printing

If you are using Windows XP

1. Click start then run then type in cmd then click ok.
2. Type in NET STOP SPOOLER

After that in the lower right corner of your screen you should see a printer icon. Delete the queueu

If that still does not work Unplug the power from the printer then wait for 5 mins then restart your computer and turn it back on.
