I have a Yamaha compact disc automatic changer- CDC-585. It holds 5 discs on a carousel changer. Everytime I press the play button, it does not play the music CD but displays OPEN and the disc tray opens and stays open. What could be the problem? Is it worth repairing or just buy another unit?

SOURCE: my CD changer's disk tray keeps opening up, refuses to play discs

You have a problem with the try control circuit. It could be the switch is leaking across itself. Could be a problem with the tray motor control IC, or the Microprocessor is not reseting the open tray line correctly, or theres a cam assembly inside the unit that tells the microprocessor where everything is by means of small micro/leaf type switches thats out of alighnment or broken. If its seven years old, you got more then it was designed for and I would'nt invest a dime or the time into the repair of this unit. Time to take a trip to the electronics store. Good luck

SOURCE: Disc door keeps opening.

The drawer belt may also lift the laser up to meet the CD . If the belt is bad , the CD player will kick out the CD.
Change the belt.

SOURCE: Can i fix the tray on Yamaha CDC-585 that will not close?

See if the tray motor drives a belt to move the tray, if so, check if the belt is loose or broken and replace if necessary.

You can find replacement belts in electronic part stores and on internet, you need to measure the diameter of the circle that the belt forms so you'll know what to purchase, but keep in mind that the new belt will be of a slightly smaller diameter than the used one).

Also check the tray homing switches for dirty contacts or physical damage and clean/replace if necessary.

These switches are usually of a touch contact type (something alike relay contacts that are being pressed to make a contact when the tray is in either of the extreme positions - open or closed).

It may as well be something else like tray motor control section, loose wires or connectors, physical damage to any of the tray drive gears or other tray parts, a stuck/obstructed gear... i only described two of the fairly common problems that often cause the tray mechanism to fail or malfunction.

Hope you can fix it...

SOURCE: need drawer belt for Yamaha cdc-805 CD changer

Any decent repair shop should have a large supply of replacement belts. The Part number isn't necessary. Just take the old one in and get a new one just 2mm smaller than the original. Some repair shops won;t sell them because they don't want you repairing your own property but a decent shop should sell you one.

How to fix Magnavox compact disc carousel changer that has no sound?

Is there sound through the headphone jack? Have you tried other audio cables to connect it? Look for a reset button or with all discs removed and the unit powered on, hold the power button for 20 seconds and see if that resets it. This works for many electronic computer controlled devices.

Unit plays well but door goes in OPEN position and will not play and if I keep try it will start to play

Honestly, when the mechanical parts wear to this extent, you're better off to buy a new CD/DVD player, since they are so much cheaper than repairing older units.

Unofrtunately there is no way to program this changer without the remote, as their buttons allow only selecting tracks between discs when they are being played.

Yamaha cdc 555 5 disc cd player

If you trust yourself enough to open the case w/o breaking stuff, then open it up UNPLUGGED, locate the laser lens (small, clear, plastic) gently clean the lens with a swab of lens cleaner for glasses.
Also clean the chrome runners that the laser assembly tracks on.
