Question about Bosch 7 - 1/4" Worm Drive Construction Saw with Direct Connect 1677MD

1 Answer

My direct connect worm drive saw had an extension cord solder itself to the saw due to a short in the cord, so after hardwiring it like a normal saw with a cord on the end, it now trips GFCI outlets, which makes it a pain in the ***.

Could be broken wire in the cord itself. Before it gets to the switch

Bosch 71/4 wormdrive keeps flipping breaker

If the saw is tripping breakers, either you are trying to run the saw on a circuit that can't handle the amps the saw needs to run or something is wrong with the saw that is making it draw more amps than it should.
Power supply: You should be on a 15 amp circuit or higher for this saw. Popping breakers can also be caused by using long or low guage extension cords or a low guage power cord on the saw. The saw should have a 14 guage power cord on it and extension cords should not be lower than 12 guage if 50 feet long.
Saw: You've already replaced the cord & switch, if the brushes are OK, look to the mechanics of the saw. The blade should turn freely and smoothly by hand with the saw unplugged. Things to look for are a lack of lubrication in the transmission, binding or broken gears in the trans and binding or seized bearings on the armature or worm gear set. Also, a dull blade forced through wood will also cause the saw to be overworked and draw enough power to trip breakers.

Bosch circularsaw flips breaker

Did you replace cord and switch to fix the problem, or has the problem occurred since replacing parts?
Definitely a short somewhere, and if you replaced parts because of the problem the only other thing has to be the motor.

Utilitech #73189 installation

Utilitec 73189 is ordinary 120Volt fluorescent light.
Where are you installing this light?
Are you wanting to hardwire this light so it connects directly to a switch?

Does the light have a plug-in cord?
Or do you want instructions how to wire a plug-in cord to the light? And then install small rotary line switch on the cord.

I would buy a cheap extension cord that already has ends. And buy rotary line switch that fits the cord.
Then cut off one end of extension cord so it will plug into outlet.
Install the line switch onto the cord.
Connect the cut-end of extension cord to light fixture, black-to-black white-to-white-green-to-green.

Add a comment and include more detail.

Replace the cord. Cords get internal breaks by the handle or boot because that's where they have the most bending movement. The wires break inside where you can't see them. When you wiggle the cord the connection is remade, usually with a spark hot enough to hold them together for a short time. When the saw turns off and the cord moves again the weak point breaks again. You can test this by pluggin in the cord and checking for voltage where the cord attaches to the switch.

there is a direct short somewhere, recheck the plug end for correct wiring and if OK then it is in the cord or the motor itself, I would think the cord or plug first.

No power when i squeeze the trigger on the hd77

Troubleshoot the problem. It could only be a few things: 1) defective trigger/switch, in which case you can replace it by getting the part from a specialty tool store; 2) the cord itself, either where it plugs into the saw or at the plug end there may be a loose wire; 3) you've accidentally cut or nicked the cord--easily done--and there is a severed wire.

Moter bogs down on my saw can anyonehelp

Maybe it's under-wired? When you start it up, if the lights dim, and the saw takes 2 or 3 seconds to come up to speed, then your wire is definitely too small and/or too long. 14 gage wire is almost always too light, although a very short 14 gage extension cord plugged into a circuit wired with 12 gage is OK. The cord on the saw itself is probably 14 gage.
