Check the transfer roller (sponge roller that sits underneath the toner cartridge) make sure it's clipped in both sides, replace if necessary

Brother Printer prints faded spots on left side

If you have replaced the toner and the issue remains it is likely residual toner left inside the printer from a previously leaking cartridge. It is most likely that the toner is on an internal roller or the printers drum unit.

Thankfully the toner is likely to work its way out overtime if you don't fancy cleaning inside your printer. You could always replace the drum unit, but this is far from guaranteed to be the cause and could be an expensive bit of troubleshooting.

Right side of the page after it prints is blurred or faded. We have replaced the toner and the drum

When you remove the toner and drum unit out of the machine look inside where it was, look up inside that spot where the drum was and you will see a glass window that is about 3/8 of an inch deep and maybe 8 to 9 inches long, it is likely a film of toner is on that glass blocking the laser light from hitting the drum properly. Just use a dry lint free cloth and wipe that glass down and you should be good to go. Remember look up in the spot where the toner was it can be easy to miss it.

Dell 1600N MF Laser Printer- Blank vertical strip on all prints

you need do follow steps:
1) take out the cartridge find a cover there is the drum inside, the drum you can see the color on the drum surface
2) check out and clean any pieces of paper or dirty waste toner stuck there, because there is a waste toner cleaner on the drum surface which is like a long rubbon strip (something like that) you can spin anyway a little to clean.
3) if you check out any different color (vertical round drum), that is the drum surface worn or scratched. you can see the worn area show light color than normal area.
so you need change it better. 4) if the color all very same and still not fix, you need check again something stuck the drum surface near cleaner rubbon.

hope help you fix it, please take a rating let me know how much helped you thanks! keep in touch your question please.

Prints faint copies

If the print rubs off the page, this means the toner is not being fused to the page. Fused......this is done by the fuser. This would have nothing to do with light print.

The dell (1600n and 1815n /1815dn) printer drivers has a toner saver mode, which can contribute to light print.

To turn Toner Save Mode off, (Windows XP) perform the following steps:
  1. Click the Start button, click Settings, and then click Printer and Faxes.
The Printers and Faxes window appears.
  2. Right-click Dell Laser MFP 1600n, 1815dn, and left-click Printing Preferences.
The Dell Laser MFP 1600n, 1815dn Printing Preferences window appears.
  3. Click the Advanced button.
The Dell Laser MFP 1600n, 1815dn Advanced Options window appears.
  4. Click to highlight Toner Save.
  5. Click the drop-down list and change it to Off and click OK.
  6. Click OK.
One thing that you mentioned in your post "it takes the printer forever to warm up". The fuser does have to reach operational temperature in order for it to fuse the toner to the page. So it is possible that you are having fuser problems, because of the time it is taking for it to warm up. Another thing that can contribute to the warm up time is not plugging the laser printer directly into a wall outlet. This would be true for any laser printer, not just a Dell laser printer. The low voltage power supply is what works the fuser, along with sensors and other motors in the printer.

Replacing the fuser and or the low voltage power supply in this model of printer is not an easy task. If using a Dell branded toner cartridge and checking the toner saver mode does not fix the issue. Then you would be looking at more expense then the machine would possibly be worth.

Won't print an entire page

replace a toner. if one section of the toner is distributing the toner. redistributing the toner is not coming to correct the problem.
best thing is to replace it.

DELL 1600N

If it makes verticle lines only when using the document feeder it is most likely a dirty glass strip over the scanner light bar. If it makes verticle lines in all modes (printing, flat bed scanning/copying, receiving faxes) it could be the fuser or a dirty glass over the laser where ever the laser images to a drum roller (usually a larger green roller). It is possible that this green drum roller is inside the toner - if so - replacing the toner cartridge could fix it. Maybe you could try an old used toner to see of the problem changes - if so - it is very likely that a new toner would fix your print quality issue.
