Question about Brother MFC 240C All-In-One InkJet Printer

2 Answers

I have a Brother MFC 240C. After I removed paper from a paper jam the printer reads: Print unable 50. See Trouble Shooting and Routine Maintenance chapter in User's Guide. I tried to look this up on line and am unable to find it. Can you tell me what to do to get my printer working. thank you, Sally

You may encounter a paper jam while working with your Brother printer. You need to be cautious while feeding the paper to your printer. Paper jams are often obvious, but you might come across a situation when you do not get any indication that the paper has jammed up the printer. In such cases, you need to open your printer and visually inspect it to search for the jammed paper. If the rollers of your printer are leaving marks on the printouts, then there is a need to clean them. Using chemical cleaners such as benzine, thinner, or alcohol to clean the rollers might prove hazardous to your printer.

Hi,
I had this same problem and it is an easy fix. It is similar on all brother printers but mine was a 5860CN.

Lift the lid on your printer and at the back you can see the opening where the print head is.
With the power off, use your finger to move the print head into the middle.
Now feel under the lip of the cover at the front of the gap and you will find a plastic strip that runs from one side to the other. This is the encoding strip and it what the print head uses to read where it is. This encoding strip is easily pushed out of position when a paper jam occurs and all you need to do is to get it back into position. Using both hands use a finger on either side of the print head and lift the encoding strip upwards slightly and move slightly towards the back of the printer. This will locate it back into the correct position in the print head when you release. You can feel this with your fingers. Power back on and the problems will be gone!
Remember and be gentle so as not to damage the encoder strip!

May be you should have the printer checked by a qualified technician.
I guess that when you aunt removed the paper, she did it by applying excessive force causing damage to the printer mechanic.

Problem with my printer Brother MFC-240C "Print unable 4F"

Access the internal maintenance mode by pressing the Menu/Set button, then press * 2 8 6 4 within 2 seconds. This should put you in the maintenance mode menu. Enter 80, then scroll down with the arrow down (round) key. You'll find an entry listed as purge count. If number is over 6000, enter 2 7 8 3.

This will reset the purge count value. Then the printer will restart,
try this step by step.without missing any thing. thanks

Message unable to print 50

Machine Error 50 either means that there is a loose object inside the machine (usually piece of paper), or that there is a mechanical error which would need you to have the machine sent to service.

The encoderstrip which gives the head the position is out of place. You have to open the printer (cable, cover, screws..) and to put the encoder strip into the right place on top of the printhead. The encoderstrip is the foil which runs paralell to the drivebelt of printhead.
