Question about Harley Davidson Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Desktop Telephone

98 Fatboy backfiring through carb, not enough power on take off, through second gear seems to lag with not good pick up. Everyone takes off and leaves me, takes me a bit to catch up. Everything is stock on the bike other than Vance and Hines long shots and a K&N air filter. Any suggestions?

Carburator backfires are almost always due to a lean condition. Check your intake manifold for air leak. Star the bike, warm it up and let it idle on the kickstand. From the air breather side spray a bit of wd40 onto the intake manifold (one side at a time) and listen for the idle to pick up. If it does, you're sucking air around the intake. This should be fixed right away as it will just get worse and could result in burned valves. If this is not the case then check the main jet in your carb and get one that is richer. Trial and error is the only way to determine the best jet for your bike.

It probably isn't oil, it's more than likely fuel mixed with carbon due to running too rich. check your settings on the fuel pak.

SOURCE: Mikuni jetting

If it's the Sreamin' Eagle Mikuni, it should come jetted close enough to take your bike to someone with an exhaust gas analyzer. That's the best way to get your card jetted correctly with the extensive amount of changes that you have made on this bike. I would advise that you take the bike to someone that has a dynometer that is equipped with an EGA and have the run the bike up. I would not want the mixture to exceed 14:1 at any time and preferrably run about 13.5:1. It's a bit on the rich side but it will help keep your engine running cooler. I've installed the carbs before but I cannot remember what jets they had in them. Sorry. Good Luck.

2010 FATBOY WHILE RIDING LOSES POWER FOR A SECOND THEN BACKFIRES THEN REGAINS POWER

If you have changed exhaust, air filter even slip ons you likely need a different modules setting or if a carb it needs jetted. My bike always "burped " until I changed over to a S&S, drastic but builder explained that slip ons and K&N changed enough to cause the burp

Without being there to listen to it, I would guess that you probably do have a carburettor issue. One of the carbs is not functioning properly causing a serious lack of power. The backfire at deceleration is most likely caused by leaks in the exhaust system, but could also be caused by an over fueling carb. I would remove and clean the carbs, pay close attention to the pilot jets and their circuits, (the pilots plug easily due to their small size), make sure the float needle and seat are clean and there is no noticeable groove around the tip of the float needle. Do not change any of the linkage or their related adjustment screws or you will need to re-balance,(synchronize), the carbs. Re-assemble and test. The oxygenated fuels that we are using these days will go bad in a short period of time, (weeks or months), even with a good fuel stabilizer. The most common fuel related issues that we have seen in the last couple of years has been plugged pilot jets and float needles with corrosion built up on the sides of the needle that cause them to stick in needle seat. We recommend using one of the fuel additive products that are on the market now that help to keep the insoluble particles suspended in the fuel so they can't congeal in the carbs.

I started my craftsman 21hp 42in deck today it had a rough idle with backfire and when engade mower it seemed to not have enough power

Backfiring is a sign of too rich on gas and not enough air. Not enough gas will cause the mower to bog down when blades are engaged as it isn't powerful enough to run the motor AND turn the blades. Check your carb and see if you need to clean it and replace diaphgram. Sounds a lot like a carb problem.

Does my 360 have a disc drive issue?

The lag you're experiencing most likely isn't the result of any physical abnormality, but rather you're network. How many people in your household share the same network? The more people on a network, the slower it will run. (I've actually experience this first hand) You might have too much people sharing your network for your game to run smoothly. Try to go on hours that everyone is not on. As for the repeated starts and stops, during game play, don't stress that. Its normal.

Sounds like the alternator isn't running good, have you tested this? Perhaps it isn't sparking cosistently and the loss of power would be explained if it isn't kicking out enough power.
