I got the same problem and when I ask for help on the net, surprise! Lots of cases like ours... some MoBo accept 1G in each slot and others accept only one, in my case, it doesn´t accept even one in one slot. Memory is Kingston, the best one in my opinion, but it only works with 512. I´m taking my receipt and I´ll change for another model.
That´s my tip, change it while ECS doesn´t solve this problem!

The motherboard only supports 2gigs of memory. the other problem might be the 2gig stick itself since its probabaly damaged or broken if it came from a generic brand or was cheap priced. you should run memtest to see if it reads the 2gig stick

Hello,
This motherboard supports maximum 2 gig memory (please refer to this link). However, it has 2 memory slots where only 1 gig memory will hold in each slot.

Try putting in 2 - 1g memory module and see if that works.

Thanks,
Lolita

Try just using 512Mb of memory or less as there was a bug in Me and 9x that produced that error if you had more than 512 Mb of ram.

I currently Have I Gig of Ram. I am trying to install 2 x 1 Gig of Matched Ram in the Correct slots but the computer will not boot up with 2 sticks of Ram. If I take either one out it boots up fine

What slots you put the RAM into can make a difference - Assuming you have more than 2 slots, try staggering the RAM placement so there's an empty slot between the 2 RAM sticks. You'd have to look up your motherboard model online to see what specific instructions there are.

I have intel d845gvs1 motherboard with P4 2.4 ghz, Currently have 2 ram (512mb & 256 mb) how much further can i upgrade the ram, 1GB or 2GB also is the current combination of ram is right?

"Supports up to 2 GB of system memory with DIMMs utilizing 512 Mbit
technology DRAM devices"-intel

you can use 2 sticks of 1 gig apiece to get to 2 gigs of total memory, but you have to make sure that the ram sticks use "512Mbit " technology.

the 512Mbit technology refers to the arrangement of memory chips on the ram cards. a card which uses 64Mx8 (8 seperate memory chips of 64M apiece) would be appropriate.

"Nearly all motherboards only recognize 1 GB modules if they are low density 64M×8 modules. If high density 128M×4 1 GB modules are used, they most likely will not work."-wikipedia"

Problems with Foxconn 6100K8MA-RS Motherboard memory upgrade

This is an oldtime POST code memory error. Likely that ram is either installed wrong, bad RAM or the mobo doesn't like one of the memory sticks.

See http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm.

You must count the beeps.

Asrock K7VM2 Motherboard Memory Upgrade

Some MOBO support different type of memory modules like ddr 400, 333,533 and other, if your computer is working fine with that PC400 it only means that your MOBO is compatible with it. Since you're planning to upgrade the memory just get another PC400 because the memory should be the same to work fine.
