I suspect the interlock monitor switch in your microwave oven is the culprit. This is one of several switches operated by the door latches. It's designed to blow the fuse if you try to run the microwave with the door open. The switch is probably stuck, or is out of adjustment (which can happen if the oven door gets closed hard), and when you restarted the oven it blew the fuse. It is possible to adjust or replace the switch as necessary, but it might not be worth it. You should have a professional do the repair as there's a chance of microwave leakage if repairs involving the door aren't done properly. Between labor and parts, the repair cost might come close to (or even exceed) the replacement cost for a small oven.

Hope this helps, and thanks for using Fixya!

if opening and closing the door fails to clear the fault , then your door switch's have a fault in them , this is not too uncommon on microwaves , as most of them have three separate door switches ,(its a safety thing ) as the last thing in the world you'd want to happen is running it with the door open . make sure the door seals properly and there's nothing down in the cracks (even the hinge side) that keeping it from closing properly , I once had a pealing factory label do this , so it doesn't take much to trip the door switch

Check the door latch switch inside the oven. The 4 switches where the door hooks latch on to when the door is closed has to engage with the door hooks to tell the oven that the door is closed. loosen the 2 phillip screws that holds the switch assembly and slide it to adj. and ensure that the switches close when the door is closed.
Sometimes the switches go bad and cannot make contact and must be replaced. If you see that the connectors on the switch is discolored or overheated replace the switch, it is bad.

My microwwave is not heating,

Hello

Push the microwave door tightly closed. The computer will not start cooking until the door is closed for safety reasons. Some models of microwave will give a warning on the screen if the door is open.

Ensure you have programmed a heat setting, entered a cooking time and pressed the "Start" button on the microwave's keypad. Check that the microwave is not set to "Defrost" mode.

Unplug the microwave and wait for one minute. This measure will reset the microwave's internal computer if it has frozen or scrambled. Plug the microwave back in and try again.

Ensure the keypad lock mode is inactive. Most microwave ovens have a lockout feature that prevents children from starting the microwave while unsupervised. Lockout mode is usually deactivated by holding down the button that bears a padlock symbol (like the "Start" button in the photograph).

That is probably a bad primary interlock (bottom door switch).

See this file for help on checking and replacing door switches.

There should be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, & testing.

If the microwave is rotating & the light is on, then the door switches have been satisfied. Some times the connections to the magnetron get crystalized. I have repaired mine just by pulling the leads to the magnetron on and off a couple of times, When testing always have the microwave loaded with at least a glass of water. And be careful because the capacitor in the microwaves hold a charge. Short out and drain the capacitor by touching both termnals with a metal objest like a screwdriver. Or unplug the leads on the capacitor befor beginning the repairs.

GE microwave won't turn off

Just checked the GE website. Had the same problem with my 5 year old microwave. GE website says to close and open the door quickly three times. First time I did this it didn't work. Second time I closed the door with some significant force and reopened it more quickly. Worked. Unplugged the microwave, plugged it back in, still fine.

I suspect a door switch firstly followed by the diode pack, magnetron and capacitor. One or a number of these things has taken the internal fuse situated on the mains input panel near where the power cable enters.
BE VERY CAREFUL lethal voltages exist inside and not just mains voltage, many times greater!

The most common suspect here is a shorted high voltage capacitor, since you say it blew the fuse right after Start, but I would certainly suggest checking the door switches and door switch mounts first. Just be sure you installed the right fuse. It would be a The switch mounts seem to break at about this point in the life of these models. Hood lights will not work everything else does ,tested bulbs

The problem is a bad light socket or the door switch. If you know how to do a continuity check with the power cable unplugged then thats what needs to be checked. Unplug microwave.. Take a meter lead insert it into the socket to the light bulb Follow that wire to where it goes as it should go to one of the switches on the door assy. Now these switchs can be tricky so be carefull when you check them as whith the door open theres a terminal that says N.O. that means normally open as when the doors open. The other lead should say on the door switch N.C., that means normally closed so you now that if the wire coming from the light bulb goes to a switch point on the door says N.C. the it shoud read a short from the light bulb socket to both the common and the N.O. side of the switch. If it dosent then the switch is bad. Now on a rare accation the socket itself is bad but thats easy to look at and see if its all corroded and stuff. If this dosent help lets us know and we can assit ya more and by all means if you dont know what im talking about PLEASE dont attempt to trouble shoot this as it could cause bodily harm!! Good Luck
