Question about GE Washing Machines

1 Answer

When my washer model#wpse4270aww is in WASHING mode it really knocks and it's NOT off kilter, i know what that sounds like. But this is different, the tub is very loose even when there is nothing in it and the machine is off. we don't have a repair contract on it anymore and wanted to know if it's an easy fix for us-like just a tightening thing or would it cost alot to have a repair on it-or should we just look a buying a new machine, it is almost 10 years old., we bought it in March 2001

SOURCE: Burnt rubber smell

the belt is broken. the machine wont spin or agitate with a broken belt. set the timer to spin and the water should still drain. but not spin. belts are very cheap but replacing on could be tricky if you dont know what your doing

SOURCE: washing machine - knocking sound at end of cycles

actually by the sounds of it, you have a top loader. simply apply a small portion of grease to the brake drum and this will take the severity off when stopping. if you dont do this incidently, eventually your coupling will break.

SOURCE: Burning smell when my Maytag top load washing machine is running

Sounds like the belt is sliping. ether it's loose, or the trans needs lubed, or both.

SOURCE: Kenmore Elite top loader makes loud knocking sound when spinning

sometimes the agitator gets loose, causing the drum to sway to far all over the place.make sure its tight , remove the softener dispenser (manual nut), then tighten the metal nut that holds the agitator down

SOURCE: Is my washing machine too

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

Although you say it's level I would recommend you try my method to make absolutely certain before considering spending money!
It is necessary to ensure absolutely that the machine has all 4 feet very firmly on the floor, and I mean firmly ;-0)
Doesn't matter whether it is empty or not but switch it off then-
very firmly push one front corner diagonally into the centre of the machine and see if the machine moves or rocks AT ALL, even the slightest. If it does you will need the open-ended spanner which came with the (new) machine........which of course went missing a long time ago?!! An adjustable spanner will suffice.
Adjust the foot under that corner downwards until it is very firmly- almost pushing- against the floor but not so far that the corner lifts up!
If this corner did not rock do the same to the other.
Once you cannot rock the machine the slightest little bit, screw the locking nuts up tight to the underside of the machine so that they will not move. Ideally the rear feet should also be locked.

(If this has not cured the problem it is possible that the internal suspension is malfunctioning.)

If this has assisted you please consider a 4 thumbs up for the rating.
Thanks and good luck!
John C

Why does whirlpool washer wtw6200vwd twist pant leg and sleves!

It's an inherent problem with this washer due to the designed movement of the agitator. My wife had the same problem. We solved this and the multitude of other problems we had with this washer by going to home depot and buying the cheapest washer they had. Told the rep we wanted a washer with no computer, no special cleaning agitation designs, etc. He said "you want this one". we bought it, they delivered it and we now have cleaner clothes and no twisted sleeves, pant legs, error messages. When they were ready to leave they ask my wife if she wanted to keep the old washer or wanted them to haul it away. Her response was "I never want to see that thing again."

Knocking noice in agitation cycle

Do you get same sound if you run through a wash cycle empty (no clothes?) using detergent? If so, then likely a basket support has come loose (check deep inside along top ring). If not, then you may be overloading washer (unless using different sized loads), or the agitator is not working like it should, and basket is torquing.

Drum is really loose and when hits spin cycle makes loud noise

Most front loaders are pretty much the same and it sounds like your tub bearings are going bad. There is also a problem in some front loaders where the drum arms corrode and break. You won't know until you pull it apart. If you are doing the work yourself it depends on the parts you need. You can knock out old bearings and match some up.
If you are paying someone, it may be cheaper to buy a new washer..
