I just got an Acer Aspire 6920 from a friend but don't know the HDD user password. How can I reset it without the old one?

You may be able to wipe the hard disk using HDDERASE but it is tricky! See http://www.rmprepusb.com/tutorials/erase-your-hard-disk
There is no way to gain access to the data on the hard disk unless you know the password (unless you have a clean room and lots of spare drives and are an expert!).

I forget my password to unlock my wd smartware

There is no way to unlock the software or hard drive without the password. All you can do is format the drive and erase the data to get functionality of the drive back. If you have access to the SmartWare software, but not the hard drive, you still have to erase the data and can use the software to do so. Here are some instructions:

1. Well, if you have the WD SmartWare already installed you are in luck as there is Erase function built onto WD SmartWare software. There are 2 ways. #2 or #3.
2a. Click to Settings Tab on 4th right.
2b. Click to Set Up Drive
2c. Click Erase Drive and follow the instruction.
3a. Plug in the drive and you will be prompted to type in password.
3b. Type in 5 "wrong/bad" password
3c. This will trigger Too Many Attempts and asked to accept data loss and get drive back.

How do i remove a built-in HDD password?

If it is the password that has been firmware locked, you cannot. This is to stop people who steal laptops from accessing data
If its a BIOS password, access the bios by pressing ( I THINK) F2 or F1 or Del at start up, navigate through the BIOS screens until you find SET Password and remove it

Bought a dell lap top..at flea mkt...cant get on line without a pass word..(previous owner) what i have to do to get it going...

It sounds like the hard drive has been locked with a password. This is the most secure method to protect your data if the computer has been compromised or stolen. It is virtually impossible to unlock a hard drive password because the password itself is written on the hard drive and cannot be removed even if you install the hard drive on another computer. Since you cannot access the hard drive you cannot access the password. You need to get a new hard drive or one that doesn't have a password lock. If it's a Windows account password, you can remove it by getting a software password remover - these can be downloaded from the Internet.

My son locked the hhd drive and he forgot password how do i unlock it

You can't unlock it without the password. Removing the hard drive and putting it into another computer will not work.
This feature is used to prevent unauthorized access to data on the hard drive.
The hard drive password is set from the Security setting in the BIOS configuration and you need the password to disable the password on the hard drive.

I fogot my HDD password How to unlock

There isn't any way to recover or reset the HDD password or the Hard drive data. To use your computer again, disable all passwords in the setup and replace the hard drive, you'll lose all data.

Hdd password ,how 2 retervie

There are no backdoor passwords available. The password cannot be removed from the hard disk unless you know the original password to get into the hard disk and you can then remove the password.
Hard drive password is set to protect data stored on the hard drive from unauthorized access. Removing the hard drive and inserting it into another computer still will not allow access without the password.
If you cannot remember the password, your only options is to replace the hard drive with a new one and install Windows, the device drivers and your programs etc. to get a fully functioning computer again.

MY ACER ZG5 KEEPS ASKING ME FOR HARDWARE SECURITY?? ALL I DID WAS NOT REMEMBER MY PASSWORD, TOUCHED ONE OR TWO THINGS... BOOM! HARDDISK SECURITY COMES UP?

The BIOS (basic input output system) is a chip that stores the configuration of the laptop and this information needs a battery to keep it stored in its memory. The stored info, consists of The date & time, the amount of RAM (memory), the hard disk type & size, configuration of the parralel & serial ports, passwords etc.
Some passwords are not stored in the BIOS, such as the hard disk password.
The hard disk password is setup from the BIOS configuration and it can be removed using the BIOS configuration, but you need to know the password to do this, or you just enter the password to access the data on the hard disk. This password is used to prevent unauthorized access to data on the hard disk.
There are no backdoor passwords you can use and moving the hard disk into another computer will not allow you access to the data on that hard disk.

NEED PASSWORDS TO ACCESS HARD DRIVE

Sharon, you have a extremly difficult problem.
Why is the laptop in for repair, is the laptop faulty, how do you know the hard drive is faulty when you cannot start up the laptop?

It appears that you have or someone has set up a power on password and possibly a password protection on the hard drive.
If you hard drive is faulty it is highly unlikely that you cannot retrieve any data off your hard drive with or without the passwords.
IBM ThinkPads laptops store the Power On password on an EEPROM chip and removing the BIOS battery cannot clear this password. there are no backdoor passwords that you can use. The passwords are used to prevent unauthorized access to the laptop and its data.

If there isn't a password on the hard disk, and the hard disk is not faulty, you can remove the hard drive and connect it to a working computer to read and copy off your data. I suggest you connect your hard drive using a USB hard drive adapter and connecting it to a working computer's USB port.

IBM states that if you don't know the Power On password, therefore you cannot get into the BIOS to remove the password, and you need to replace the motherboard (this is not cheap).
There is a way to hack into the laptop, it required some electronic experience to build a reader device, dismantle the laptop, solder it to the EEPROM chip, connect the output to a working computer, run a reader program, locate the password from this data, unsolder the wires, put the laptop back together and boot up and enter the password.
For detailed information go to www.allservice.ro/forum
I have successfully removed these passwords, it is a lot of work, and needs to be tackled by an experienced person.

Best of luck.

Fujitsu lifebook e6560 PIN code

Not 100% familiar with this model, but the pin could relate to 3 diffrent things.
  1. The CMOS has been locked and needs an admin password to get back in. Soloution clear the CMOS. Unfortunatly this is a laptop and the clear CMOS is a pain in the ..well you know to get to. It's normally 2 solder pads that need to be touched and located on the motherboard under the keyboard. This not the most likely cause of your problem though.
  2. A security chip built into the laptop and locks the laptop incase of theft. You will need to send this to a professional to get the password removed. Not cheap.
  3. A similar function to above, but applied to the hard drive. Same soloution as above, but normally it's far cheaper to just put another hard drive in. The lock is actually applied to the hard drive itself, and there are no easy ways to bypass it. Thse are mainly used to protect the data on the hard drive incase of theft. Company files can be worth a lot of money in the wrong hands.
So, with all that in mind, if you have a spare laptop HDD, or access to one, then swap them over and see if you can access it.

Hope that cures your riddle =)
