Its not the bulb. Its shutting off due to an over-voltage fault. Before we assume that anything is knocked out, turn off the set and unplug it from the power supply. This will ensure that any protection circuitry activated are reset. Hold for one minute and turn it back on. If problem persists, let me know.

    Sai.

Then its definitely an OVP fault. Apparently one of the components on the protection circuitry , that control the amount of voltage flowing into a particualr circuit have failed. We are gonna have to do some component level troubleshooting to fix this which begs the question- Have you worked on electronics circuits before? Do you know how to use a multimeter? Do you know how to solder?

No it does not have anything to do with that. It is usually caused by a power surge or if the component somehow fails by itself(wear and tear kid of thing).

Its gonna cost you around 100-150$. As for replacing it with a new set, its a rather tough question, as the LCDs, plasmas and projection tvs breakdown in about 3-4 years max. So it might be worth fixing it. The lamp(CRT) you are referring to last long. Really long. I have seen these babies work for 20-25 years!

Well taking it to some place of course. A bulk of that is service charge. The components that have to be replaced are gonna cost you around 10-15$ max. So 150$ to get this baby up and running

Hi the power supply might have shut down through overheating turn the power of at the wall socket & wait for a short time before trying again the TV might reset itself if this doesn't work its probably shut down from a faulty component. good luck

Read replace lamp then afew weeks later heard pop noise and now black screen

Two things in your TV can make that popping sound. One is the bulb of course and the other is a capacitor. Have you pulled out the bulb to inspect it? My guess is that you have broken glass in the cooling fan, which is why there is a grinding sound. Most bulbs tend to contain the glass from getting everywhere as it's only the filament inside that pops creating little diamond looking pieces inside the lens. If a surge was strong enough or if the bulb was poorly manufactured, the whole unit can explode inside spraying glass everywhere.

If the bulb looks fine, the pop must've been a capacitor on one of your circuit boards resulting in no display. Since the TV still powers on, your power supply and it's fuse appear to be fine. Check the bulb first and go from there.

Sound like you have problem in two major.

1. Check the if there any short component in the primary and secondery side of the power supply.

2. If the component are ok in the power supply.Check in the deflection area.

No picture, hear sound, television will shut off after a few seconds.

Lamp life is only a few thousand hours. Hopefully its only the lamp that made to noise. Don't turn on again until lamp is replaced.
