Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

I've been using my 5300C scanner with Windows XP for years. Now, all of a sudden, my computer can't find it. My scanner is connected. I tried re-installing the scanner software but my computer tells me...

Most likely your scanner was put offline by a microsoft update. Mine was knocked out of business by a hardware driver update downloaded from microsoft update.

Try to roll back the scanner driver (my computer, system, hardware select scanner, properties, rollback driver to prior version) or go to your system restore function and do a restore to a earlier date when you know the scanner was working and see if that fixes it.

Worked for me. Windows XP pro

Can't download photos

nsarles,

I don't have this exact same Canon camera, but with my model if the back screen is lit the camera can't communicate with the computer. If you half-press the shutter, it turns off the back display, and then they can communicate and transfer data. Give that a try and let me know if it fixes your problem. If that doesn't fix your problem, please don't rate my answer until I give you some additional things to try. Thanks!

My computer is not recognising my EOS 20D!

Hi I have exactly the same problem. I'm running Windows Vista Business as the OS and have installed the disk that came with the camera with no avail.

It keeps recognising it as a scanner, but I cannot open the pics. I've tried different cables as well. No use.

Pics not transferring to the computer

If you have camera software installed - take it out. Now try If the Camera/Card are functioning Windows Scanner/camera wizard should sort it. If that fails take the card out and try to get the use of a card reader or another computer or processing station - you have to prove Camera/Card/Computer which is not doing the business
