Question about Speed Queen AWS17NW Top Load Washer

1 Answer

Motor runs normal in wash cycle and only buzzes in spin cycle. is ther a capacitor for the spin cycle? THe problem started wth an overloaded machine. Nothing smells burned, only the spin cycle seems to be affected. Trying to determine if it is the motor or sometning else. I am able to turn the transmission in both directions freely by hand.

There's no such run capacitor for this machine and the problem is likely in the motor itself as you suspected. The motor sounds like locking up during the spin cycle or the spin windings are faulty. In either case, the only viable solution is replacing the motor. Disconnect power then verify this condition by removing the belt from the motor pulley then reconnecting power and starting the machine in the spin cycle. The motor is indeed faulty and needs to be replaced if the motor just hums and doesn't run.

Kenmore washing machine series 90, will not agitate, spin, or drain. Door switch is good. Wigwag solenoids have continuity. Motor start capacitor good. Motor will spin if belt removed.

Unplug the unit. Remove the hoses on the water pump to check if it is clogged. Water will come out so be prepared. Check how you can check for error codes.

A ge top load washer first began by making a buzzing noise instead of spinning. Now it doesn't spin as fast as before or just wont spin. Jeans wrapped around the agitator shouldn't damage the spin?

the agitator spins with the tub so clothes wrapped around the agitator will have no effect on the spin other than a balance problem
The hum and failure to start spinning may be attributed to a failed (failing ) start run capacitor or program board not moving on properly
As the start /run capacitor is for the motor and if it start the wash cycle ok but after that cycle ( around 30-40 minutes) it may be too hot to restart the motor for the spin
I suggest that a technician be called in to get a proper diagnosis and a quote

Washing machine willnot wash, rinse, agitate,or spin when I slect the options it will only buzz and then awitch off like a breaker kicks out.

it probably has a start / run capacitor on the motor that has failed and the overload /thermo coupler trips out
have a technician check it out.

Washing machine won't spin, drum, belt and pully won't move at all

It could be that the overload switch on the lid hinge is stuck in the off (lid open) position, or that the motor start capacitor has failed (if you hear a hum or buzz when you try to start it)

My portable top load kenmore washer model 110.42722200 won't spin. It drains water and all the light functions work, but it only makes a humming sound like it is stuck when it gets to a spin cycle and does...

I just repaired this exact model this weekend. If the machine will drain but doesn't agitate or spin (you have to put a screwdriver in the lid switch to see), it's usually a loose belt. This time I replaced the belt, but it still would not agitate or spin, and the motor was not turning, just a "buzz, buzz, buzz" when the washer attempted to supply power to the motor. The start capacitor for the motor was bad. Part number 3429938 which runs about $60. Not hard to access once you tip the washer over slightly, just DISCHARGE THE OLD CAPACITOR so you don't get a nasty shock.

Buzzing noise not cycleing correctly

There is a small motor that advances the program on simpler types of machine. This is a mains-motor that needs a run capacitor to work. If this small capacitor is defective, it will cause the motor to buzz instead of rotating. If you are able to locate it and solder - in an identical component, it will likely solve the problem.

See if you can identify which motor is at fault to check the capacitor on it. These are cheap components - $1 or so.

Washer won't spin

Try a different spin cycle on another setting if it still doest work try removeing the clothes and changing it to a normal wash cycle. If no try unplugging it for a minute or 2 and then back in hopefully it resets and if still no movement on the unit at all you may have overloaded it causing the motor to wear prematuraly and burn up. This is very common with overloading.

Series 70 fills wit water stops then makes a slight buzzing sound

The electric motor my have failed or a part called a capacitor could be the problem? The capacitor is part of the starting circuit of the electric motor, if this fails the motor will not start therefore the washing machine won't spin or agitate.
