Question about Toshiba Satellite M35X-S114 Notebook

USB Ports None of my USB posts recognize any device. All of the ports stopped working at the same time. I've checked the drivers and they are all installed. Using the device manager indicates that the drivers are working properly. I've gone through all of published troubleshooting steps with no success. Any advise?

I uninstalled all drivers in the USB category and Windows did re-detect all the USB ports, but they still do not work. I also updated all drivers and they still do not work.

Again, thanks for the feedback. I tried reinstalling windows with no luck. I guess I have to look at the hardware side of things. No warranty.

I would go back to device manager and uninstall all drivers in the USB category. Reboot and Windows will re-detect all the USB ports, this should work. If it was an electronic problem then some ports would work and other wouldn't but not all since there is multiple USB controllers in most computers these days.

Then your next step is to reinstall Windows using the recovery CDs or DVDs that came with your notebook. If they still don't work after than then they probably are in fact dead and a motherboard replacement would be your only hope. If you are under warranty then don't hesitate to contact Toshiba.

Usb ports stopped working

Hi thedrogue429. it would be hard to tell if it's a hardware or a software problem because you hear something when you connect. You will have to try with other USB devices to see. In case you DID try with other devices and none of them worked. Get a PCI usb card. They cost prob $10 and you can install it yourself. It's really easy. In case that doesnt work you will need to reinstall Windows but anyways you will have more USB ports. I hope this helps and dont forget to rate and give positive feedback for our free support today. Thank you :D

Its seems your usb driver has corrupted. You are required to reinstall usb 2.0 drivers. If you have your usb driver cd then install it from there or else just search it on google and install.

It sound like your USB Ports is the problem. Go to the Hardware manager delete the USB Ports and then shutdown and power back up.
The system then should reinstall the USB Ports and associated drivers. If not the USB Ports were probably fried by the power outage.

USB PORTS

does your usb mem stick have any light indicators? if yes , whenever you put you usb stick, does it light? if it lights are USB ports is still ok,  You just have to reformat or partition you USB stick.
(you can also try other devices like usb mouse or any usb devices that lights up when you connect it)

if there are no lights if you plug, or no indication that a power goes to your stick, its possible that your usb your are busted. if this is the case, if your laptop has a PCMIA slot, you can find a pcmia USB card, if you dont have. your only option is replace the  motherboard.

Gateway USB ports stopped working

So maybe you need to install the drivers for the USB device you are trying to connect. Also, with the computer off, try cleaning all USB ports and plugs. You can buy electrical cleaner in a spray can at Radio Shack. Let it dry thoroughly before powering up. But to me it sounds like a driver problem. Unless maybe your USB BUS is going bad.

USB port problems with hp printer

There are few things to remember using USB.
  • If your System is in hybernation mode, don't remove any attached USB device, because it will damage your USB driver. This is one of the known problem from microsoft.
  • If you have to remove any USB device use 'Safely Remove Hardware'.

To remove currepted USB drivers its not enough to remove your printer drivers.
  1. You should un-install the 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers' from Device Manager.
  2. Then re-boot to clean registry.
  3. Install the 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers' using XP Setup CD.
  4. Then check the Mass storage, PDA etc, it should recognized by XP.
  5. Then install printer driver (don't attach printer to system untill setup finish or setup says to connect).

I think it will fix.
Please let me know your feed-back.

Thanks
Iqbal

Usb ports

You'll want to verify your computer recognizes your usb ports.
In device manager, look to see that you don't have anything with an exclamation mark, question mark, or red X on it. Make sure you have the usb ports listed under Universal Serial Bus controllers. If nothing shows, your usb ports may be dead. Depends on the age of your computer and what might have happened to them.

Device manager- right-click My Computer and go to properties, then select the hardware tab.
