Question about Sharp AQUOS LC-42D85U 42 in. LCD TV

1 Answer

I think I'm getting an electrical current from my TV backtracking into my Direct TV receiver and blocking the satellite signal. I get a little bit of spark when I plug the cord from the TV into the receiver. Today a Direct TV tech replaced the entire system and I still get a searching for signal message on the 1 tv. The other tv works fine. Have you ever heard of this type of problem and can you offer any advice?

Digital signal is blocked from TV

I really need a little more information to help with your problem. Do you have your TV connected to a satellite or cable receiver box via an HDMI cable or are you attempting to use the built-in digital tuner to receive HDMI over a HD antenna?

DVR refuses to rewind or pause live TV or record

ruukasu2005,

If you are still experiencing problems with your 625 receiver performing live DVR functions, try unplugging the receiver for about 10 seconds and plugging back in. This will cause the receiver to reboot and acquire satellite signal. After the picture returns, then try to pause. If it still doesn't work, then we may need to replace the receiver. I hope this helps.

Samsung plasma stalling

Your TV is fine, the problem is with the signal from your satellite dish.

The signal from the satellite is digital, so when your receiver can't get a clear signal from the satellite, it shows the last good picture it had until the signal comes back.

Check to see if your dish is still properly aimed, with a clear view of the sky (no trees in the way)

What kind of cable are you using to connect it with (coax, HDMI, RCA (composite), component, s-video)?
This may be a grounding problem. Either the cable from the satellite dish is grounded to something with a little electricity running through it or you may have a hot ground in your electrical outlet. Or the cable may be on a different ground than your electrical outlet and by connecting the two it has created a slight electrical current. You can try using a plug adaptor to remove your receiver from the electrical outlet ground. These adaptors are meant for older homes and electrical outlets that do not have a third hole or ground plug. The outer metal part of all video connectors is the ground and this may be causing the tv to act strangely.

I hope this works.

Have Direct TV using a Sony Digital Satellite receiver model #SAT B2-2 /Sony Satellite dish purchased in 7/97. I get local channels thru Direct TV. Recently, local channels will show on the Direct TV guide...

Your dish is out of alignment. The local channel satellite doesn't have as strong of a signal, so a slight misalignment will cause problems.

It could also be an F-connector needs to be replaced at the dish or multiswitch (if you have one). Sometimes moisture builds up inside the connector and corrodes the copper stinger inside.

If you go into your satellite signal strength menu and find the local channel satellite, you're sure to see either a weak signal or an intermittent one.

One more thing, if a tree has grown in the line of sight between the dish and the satellite, this will cause signal problems too. In this case, you either have to trim the tree or move the dish.

Hope this helps!

P.S.
The customer service reps at DirecTV usually idiots reading from a script with no real field experience.

My philips lcd digital tv says I am recieveing analog signals from a digital direct tv sat. How do I get my tv to change to accept digital signals?

First verify that the direct TV satellite box is set to receive and display digital stations. If you old set on the sat was analog, the box may not have been reset. You may have to contact you satellite provider. Next you will have to go to the TV menu and auto program/scan in the stations. This should pick up all the stations.

Reciever Not Recording

Turn off the receiver, unplug the receiver, wait 30 seconds, plug it back in, and go through the setup again. This hard restart clears the memory and restarts the DVR software(clears any software glitches) This should fix this problem assuming that your satellite signal is good. Check that during the resetup. Most transponders will show between 70 to 100 signal strength. (Minimum is 70 for error free reception) Several transponders will show 0 as they are dead on the satellite, and not a receiver problem) If your satellite signal is in the 70's or less, you either live in Maine or you may need to realign the dish or something is blocking the signal like a tree or bush growing that is partially blocking the signal causing the signal to drop out(partial recordings)
