check your amplifier output speaker impedance requirements.. example: 8 ohms...build a speaker 8 ohms in parallel or series connection.. check the impedance using ohmeter ..you must reach the required impedance..
use 1 cell battery to check if you speakers are in-phase...if one speaker did not ..reverse connection and check again ...to give the good sound...hope you understand my english..:)
Unfortunately can't connect it that way. The pre out is only meant to go directly into an amplifier that has all of the same inputs (front/rear, center and surround), not a standard receiver. (Pre amp to amp only, not pre amp to receiver) If your Onkyo doesn't have all the same inputs as your Kenwood preamp has outputs you will just use your standard left/right outputs from the Kenwood to your Onkyo input (CD, Tape, Phono,DVD etc) then use the outputs (front/rear, center and surround) from your Onkyo receiver and connect directly to your speakers..
It could be that you lost the power supply to the surround amp IC or the Ic is defective. It should be mounted on a circuit board attached to the heatsink. Look for poor solder connections first. I don't recall the specifics of this model, but the surround amp IC should be easily located.
Update this with your progress and I'll try to locate the service manual in the meantime.
18years is good service you may want to look at upgrading to a newer model. If you have become close to this amp I think the processor for the amp is going bad and you would have to replace the entire board ,and on this old of set woud not be available.
Hi juicer, If you use the switched outlet, then everything will be turned on/off when you operate the preamp power switch. Use the unswitched, then you have to turn off each unit separately. You choose which one you want. It wont matter.
What connection do you intend to use to connect the LBT zx6 to the Onkyo preamp??
The protection circuit is self resetting, it operates only when there is a fault condition in the amp. there is most probably a failure in the output stages of the amp causing a dc offset condition in the speaker output. The protection cct operates to prevent damage to your speakers. It may be difficult to offer a solution to you for this, it gets a bit complex to fix from here...you may have dry solder joint problems in the output stages, or more likely, failed output components. if you have a transistor checker(ohms meter), then you may be able to determine if any output transistors have failed, I recommend taking the amp to a good HiFi guy for repair. Many (including myself) often replace the all transistors to the last 2 stages when outputs fail. assures reliability in the future to repair this way, but the cost goes up a bit also. expect at least $120 to repair is it is a failed output stage.
