Ok, well when this happens it can be for a few reasons, the first thing to do though is remove the drivers for it first, then try it again... It may need to be Formatted first, but try this below first.
Remove and reinstall all USB controllers To remove and reinstall all USB controllers, follow these steps: Click Start, click Run, type sysdm.cpl in the Open box, and then click OK. Click the Hardware tab. Click the Device Manager button. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers. Right-click every device under the Universal Serial Bus controllers node, and then click Uninstall to remove them one at a time. Restart the computer, and then reinstall the USB controllers. Plug in the removable USB storage device, and then test to make sure that the issue is resolved.
Now if you still have problems, you need to try the drive on another, any other compatible PC, and see if that PC picks the drive up.. If it does, then format it on that machine and then try it on again in your PC, and you may now find it is OK.
Unfortunately though these flash drives, will fail, with no warning and for what seems like no good reason, usually they get "Spiked" inserting and removing from the PC's USB slot. One should always use the Safely remove hardware. when dismounting any USB device...

Hi, Please try different usb ports and also check if any other flashdrive is working well in the same usb port (WHERE YOU TRY TO CONNECT YOUR VERBATIM). This will isolate whether its something wrong with the usb port or the flash drive.

Please let me know if you need more help. Thank you:)

Are you positive there isn't a flash drive stuck in a USB port somewhere else on the computer? Very peculiar for the computer to be recognizing a completely different device.

It wont recognize my usb flash drive on any computer. it use to work and its not that old

Plug in your flash drive and browse to administrative tools, found in the control panel. Select Computer Management and the Disk Management. Find your drive in the upper or lower list, right click, and re-format. This has been the most effective way to resolve this issue in my experience.

VAIO desktop does not recognize Sandisk flash drive

Most probably you have a drive letter conflict? If so, right click "My computer" choose "Manage" and locate "Disk management" - here, in the middle lower panel, you should be able to find your usb-memory stick, right click it and assign it a drive letter that you're sure is not in use.

One of two USB drives wont recognize anything

Files on a flash drive can be corrupted if it is not removed from the USB port properly.
Before removing the flash drive click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon and then click on the flash drive you want to remove and then remove the flash drive when the computer message says it is Safe to remove.
To restore the flash drive you may need to format the flash drive, but you will lose the data stored on the flash drive.
If you need the data on the flash drive these WEB sites may help: -

Was Dragging Files Onto My 2GB Flash Drive And It Stopped Working

Hello,

This story may give you hope.
This very same day, I removed my Cruzer Micro unsafely and it stopped being recognized by the computer. I plugged it into another USB port and it did not work. I tried to access it under Ubuntu Linux: I could see the drive but if I click on its icon, I get the message Unable to mount volume, no media.

I tried to reinstall the SanDisk LaunchPad, but it refused to be coaxed because it did not recognize the drive as a SanDisk.

I mourned may drive, but still had hope to recover my data. A google search took me to some data recovery company, that would charge close to 300 dollars. I had no intention of paying that kind of money.

Then, without any particular reason, I plugged the drive in a USB hub that I connected to one of the two ports that failed to recognize the drive. And the miracle happened. Windows recognized it. Was it the presence of the Hub? I don't know.

I made haste to transfer my data to a folder in my computer.

After the transfer I installed the LaunchPad I downlowed from SanDisk. It warned me that my files will be lost. But since I already transferred them, I could not care less.

When I reaccessed the drive, my files were still there. Now my drive works fine: it is recognized by Windows, as well as Ubuntu.

The moral of this story is don't give up easily, and keep trying.

What do you think?
