Hello,
Unplug the cable, the power adapter and take out the battery. Leave unplugged for about ten to fifteen minutes. It might have caused a short in the circuit. If it still doesn't help, then the cmos battery may need to be reset.

Let me know what happens.

10 Tips for Troubleshooting Your Printer
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0%2c2817%2c2412253%2c00.asp

My Printer Won't Print
If the printer doesn't respond when you try to print a document, make sure it's turned on and that a cable hasn't come loose. For both USB- and network-connected computers, the printer driver must be installed on the computer you're printing from. Occasionally the driver may become corrupted and have to be re-installed.
You can either do this from the disc supplied with the printer or by downloading the driver from the manufacturer's Web site. Printer makers generally have a page for which you can download available software for different models and operating systems. (You may also have to update the driver so that it's compatible with a new operating system, as many consumers buying Windows 8 computers have discovered.
Not sure if your computer already has a driver installed for the printer you want to use? With Windows, it's easy to check. Just open the printer folder from the Start menu or Control Panel. Depending on the version of Windows, it's either called Printers, or Printers and Devices. It will show a list of available printers, with offline printers grayed out. If your desired printer is offline, make sure it's properly connected to your PC or network. The default printer has a green check next to it. You can set another printer as default by right-clicking on it and following the prompts.
Right-clicking on a printer and clicking on Printing Preferences will reveal the driver settings. By tweaking them, you can adjust a number of functions, including but not limited to paper size and type, default paper tray, print quality, and duplex printing (if available). The printer software installation disc almost always includes a convenient interface to access printing functions, but it's faster to work straight from the driver.
Most new printers include a quick-start sheet, and many include a user manual. You should keep the installation disk and user manual in a convenient place. A growing number of printers include a user manual as a PDF file on the installation disk, or make it available from their Web site. It's always a good idea to download it to your PC.
HAVE A NICE DAY.

Why can't I connect my computer to my printer

You need to go to the manufacturers website for your printer and download the proper drivers and software for your computers operating system (windows xp, windos 7 ect).

If not you may have something wrong with your printer, but chances are you need to have the right drivers installed. Unless it used to work, then your cable may be defective (computer to printer cable) or your printer itself has an error, does it say any errors on your printer ?

Computer unable to communicate with wireless printer

Hi

If you can't connect to your wireless printer, you may have the wrong driver installed. Printer drivers are updated when new versions of operating systems are released, or when security updates are necessary. If you're trying to connect a new wireless printer, check the manufacturer's website to find out if a new driver has been released for your model number and operating system.

Download the latest print driver to your desktop. Print drivers allow the computer and printer to communicate, so the wrong driver will make connectivity impossible.

Go to "All Programs" in the Start menu. Find your wireless printer and right-click to select "Uninstall." The driver will be uninstalled. Close out the programs window.

Double-click the new driver on your desktop to unzip and install it. This should take only a second, and you may not see any dialog box or pop-up menu.

Open a document and choose "File" and "Print." The print dialog box will open.

Click "Add a printer." The add printer wizard will begin. Browse to the driver you just installed and select it when prompted.

Print the document you opened. It should print to the wireless printer. You can click the "Make default printer" box before you print if you want.

Install the driver in the same manner on all the other network computers. You can copy the driver onto a flash drive and copy it from computer to computer to avoid downloading it multiple times.

How to conect a printer

Install a printer on a home network

There are two basic ways to make a printer available to the PCs on your home network:

  • Attach it directly to one computer and share it with all the others on a network.

  • Connect the printer as a stand-alone device on the network itself.

This article explains how to do both in Windows. However, you should always first consult the information that came with your model for specific installation and setup instructions.
Setting up a shared printer

Traditionally, the most common way to make a printer available to a home network has been to connect it to one of the PCs and then tell Windows to share it. This is called a shared printer.

The advantage of sharing a printer is that it works with any USB printer. The downside? The host PC always has to be powered up, otherwise the rest of the network won't be able to access the shared printer.

In previous versions of Windows, setting up a shared printer could sometimes be tricky. But a new home networking feature in Windows 7 called HomeGroup has greatly simplified the process.

When a network is set up as a homegroup, printers and certain files are automatically shared. (To learn more about what homegroups do and how to use them, go to the Windows website and search for "HomeGroup: Recommended links.")

If you've already set up a homegroup and want to access a shared printer from another homegroup PC, just follow these steps:
To manually connect to a homegroup printer

  1. On the computer the printer is physically connected to, click the Start button ?id=4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33, click Control Panel, type homegroup in the search box, and then click HomeGroup.

  2. Make sure the Printers check box is selected. (If not, select it, and then click Save changes.)

  3. Go to the computer you want to print from.

  4. Click to open HomeGroup.

  5. Click Install printer.

  6. If you don't already have a driver installed for the printer, click Install driver in the dialog box that appears.
    Note

    • After the printer is installed, you can access it through the Print dialog box in any program, just like a printer that's directly connected to your computer. The computer that the printer is connected to must be turned on to use the printer.

Setting up a network printer

Network printers-devices designed to connect directly to a computer network as a stand-alone device-were once found mostly in large offices. No more.

Printer makers are increasingly offering inexpensive inkjet and laser printers that are designed to serve as network printers on home networks. Network printers have one big advantage over shared printers: they're always available.

There are two common types of network printers: wired and wireless.

  • Wired printers have an Ethernet port, which you connect to your router or hub via an Ethernet cable.

  • Wireless printers typically connect to your home network using Wi-Fi or Bluetooth technology.

Some printers offer both options. The instructions that came with your model should tell you exactly how to install it.

  1. ?id=microsoft.windows.resources.shellexecutetopiciconClick to open Devices and Printers.

  2. Click Add a printer.

  3. In the Add Printer wizard, click Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer.

  4. In the list of available printers, select the one you want to use, and then click Next.

  5. If prompted, install the printer driver on your computer by clicking Install driver. ?id=18abb370-ac1e-4b6b-b663-e028a75bf05b If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

  6. Complete the additional steps in the wizard, and then click Finish.
    Tips

    • Make sure that you have permission to use these printers before adding them to the computer.

    • You can confirm the printer is working by printing a test page. For details, see Print a test page

I have a sony vaio VGN-FZ430E for a year now. It is set up on a new printer, a lexmark X4690 wireless. Right now we don't have wireless internet so we have to computer hooked up to a non-wireless network....

If you're on a wired network now and the Printer used to be on a wireless network, your computer may not know where to print to anymore. You might want to try uninstalling the printer in full and then reinstalling it making sure to do it directly connected to the computer you want to print from.

Printer and computer no communication

Unless you have a wireless router to conduct traffic, you won't be able to print wirelessly to the AIO 966.

You will need a cable (and it's possible the printer didn't come with one). You'll need a USB A-B cable to do this. You can find one at any office supply store, Radio Shack, Target... it's a common part.

Then with with laptop and printer on, plug in the cable to each and Windows should recognize the device and you'll be able to print.

Printer wont Print

Why did you need a printer to leave this message?

Look in printers and faxs and see if it is shown as 'online' or 'offline' if it is offline then unplug the usb lead, shut down the machine, unplug it, remove the battery, press the on button for a couple of seconds.

Now reconnect it all and boot up. Once up and running make sure the printer is turned OFF then plug the usb into a different port and turn it on. Windows will install it to that port. Now try it

Samsung ML-4500 with IEEE 1284 to usb cable not working

Windows XP/VISTA (do not install the CD)
1) Plug the cable into the USB port on your computer.
2) A prompt that says "Found New Hardware" will appear. Windows will then install the USB printing support driver automatically. You do not need to install the driver from the CD.
3) Plug the cable into the printer.
4) If your printer is already installed, click on Start, then Printers & Faxes. Right click on the printer you are connecting to and click on Properties. Click on the Ports tab and check the ‘Virtual printer port for USB’ port. Click OK.
5) You should now be able to print.

With XP, the biggest clue is to FIRST plug the cable into the usb slot, THEN the other end of the cable into the printer.

How can I install a printer to my Compaq. There is no port !

Newer printers will have a usb connection so u will need to buy a usb cable to connet between your laptop and theb printer. Alternatively, if your printer is old and doesn't support usb then you will need to buy a parrallel port to usb adapter to allow you to print from your laptop. With printers so cheap these days its actually more economical for you to buy a new printer rather than the adapter.

the only other way to do it is to connect your printer to another computer and share that printer over the network and then you can install that printer on your laptop as a network printer and therefore print from your laptop.

good luck
