It sounds like you need a new ballast unit for your screen. It cannot be a processor problem as the laptop works OK on another screen. The ballast unit is beneath the screen itself.
Check ebay for a keen priced ballast unit or complete screen.
Hope that helps.

Black Screen=Bad screen or motherboard?

You have done your homework, but first! remove main battery and press power, if no change! take out one stick of ram and power up, no change remove second stick and put the first one back and power up, if no change remove hard drive and start computer to see if the logo image comes back. Now reseat the hardware back in place and start computer, if no change! the motherboard is the problem and replacement the only option.

Vaio vgn cs 230j it works ok but after one or two hours the screen becomes black i can hardly see anything

Suggest you connect an external vga monitor to see if that screen also becomes black. If it does, then the problem is not likely to be the notebook's screen itself but something that is driving it. So it may be a driver problem or possibly a Vista screen saver effect. So for starters, you could try disabling the screen saver.

HP notebook does not boot

Try plugging the external VGA adapter to an external monitor. If you see your desktop or post boot on the external then most likely the lcd screen is bad or you may get lucky and it just be the "backlight tude" Either way I would replace the lcd screen with a new one if the backlight is already shot. You can buy a new screen for around $99 and they are fairly easy to install. Again confirm you have picture to an external monitor b4 you buy a new screen.

Broken screen, external monitor via VGA won't

Press "Fn+F7" once, wait a few seconds, and press it again, to "cycle" through all the possibilities (LCD-only, VGA-only, both).

Try the monitor with some other computer (desktop or laptop) to see if the monitor works at all.

Restart your computer -- does the initial "splash" screen (showing CPU speed and RAM-test) show? Does the "Windows" screen (with the crawling worm) show on the external monitor?

Screen goes black on my hp pavilion dv4000 notebook

Try connecting an external monitor to the laptop, power up the monitor first then boot up the laptop. The video data will switch to the monitor automatically, check if the monitor dislays a normal image and see if the image stays on the monitor.
Also press and hold the Fn key and press the F4 key, these keys toggle the video output between the LCD screen and the video port.
Test to see if this functions correctly.
Get back to me with the results of the tests.

Display screen does not work

First of all, try a restart with the monitor attached.
Secondly try going to the system preferences panel- It should be in the dock - the icon with the apple and the light switch.
Try to "detect displays" and see if it comes up in the menu and if the screen responds..

Let me know what you find out.

Black screen on compaq evo n610c

Couple of things to try:
Boot to safe mode by hitting F8 after you press start button. In safe mode try Last Known Configuration.
If that does not work then: reboot and log into safe mode with VGA. This will allow you to go into Device manager and see if you have a bad video driver. Try those two things and let me know what happens..

My screen went black

If your Notebook's screen went blank you can do the following:--

1) Try booting with an external monitor. Connect the external monitor to the VGA port given to the Notebook.
Result:1 --- If the external monitor is working fine, then the problem is with LCD. If your Notebook is under warranty you can get it repaired free of cost.
If your Notebook is out of warranty you can go to HP.com and purchase the LCD screen (If you are in USA please go to this link :--- http://h20141.www2.hp.com/hpparts/)

Result 2:--- After connecting the external monitor even the display is not there, then it is the problem with the motherboard. If your Notebook is under warranty then you can avail free repair.
If your Notebook is out of warranty you can go to HP.com and purchase the Motherboard (If you are in USA please go to this link :--- http://h20141.www2.hp.com/hpparts/)
