Unfortunately this is usually a sign of the Yellow Light Of Death (YLOD). When the PS3 was originally made Sony used lead free solder in their consoles. Lead free solder is not as flexible as normal leaded solder and over time due to expansion and contraction because of heat given off by the console's components lots of PS3's failed. You have got a few options, you can either have the console professionally repaired which is going to cost around £50. If the console is out of warranty Sony will only replace it for a cost of around £130. As a last resort if you are good with electrical items you might want to have a go at repairing it yourself. If you google YLOD you will find plenty of guides that will instruct you on how you can repair it yourself.

Please bear in mind that once a console has the YLOD there is NO guarantee as to how long a repair will last, it could be a couple of hours to a couple of years.

I hope this information helps you and I hope you get your PS3 up and running soon.

My playstation 3 console wont turn , when i try to it stops and a blue then yellow light flashes , what can i do to fix this.

source: http://www.edepot.com/playstation3.html#PS3_Model_Differences Yellow Light of DeathThe "Yellow Light of Death" or YLOD is the common phrase people use to describe the following sequence when they try to turn on their PS3:

  • Press Power Button
  • Red Light Flashes Three Times
  • Yellow Light Flashes
  • Green Light Flashes
  • Beeps Three Times
  • Red Light Flashes

The sequence above may vary a bit but you do see the flashing yellow light (sometimes shows up as orange) that normally you would not see when operating your PS3. The YLOD is a general hardware fault that can mean a lot of things. However, one of the problems is cracked solder that leads the PS3 to think one of its internal chips is not connected or is broken somehow. Cracked solder can happen when the chips get too hot (RSX most likely) and leads the motherboard to start bending, which may crack the solder. Changing the power supply (lower the average wattage going to the chips to lower the heat) and better thermal compound (heat dissipates faster to the heatsink) may prevent this error from occurring. However, if your PS3 has already had the YLOD, then you can reflow your motherboard every few months to keep it working (but it is not a permanent fix as the YLOD usually comes back).

Ps3 will not turn on

Your playstation is oficially broken and needs to either be replaced or repaired. Sony will fix this problem for $150.00 through their website(under warranty its free). This problem happened because it overheated and the soder melted to the point where the componets shut down and the unit went into safe mode :( :(

Well when I turn on my ps3 the green light turns into a yellow light some people call this the yellow light of death after it goes yellow it turns into a flashing red light I try to repaet it but it keeps...

well yes obviously the flashing red light means that if u do not turn off ur PS3 it will die. but depending on how long u have had ur PS3, it may be becuase the life span is almost over.
if u have not had for a couple years it is most likely a manufacturing error
u should send it in to sony before the warranty is up and have them take a look at it
