Question about Whirlpool Dishwashers

2 Answers

Have a Whirlpool built in dishwasher, it's electronic. It has two soap dispensers; one open and one with a latch cover. The latch cover fails to open in the second phase of the wash. Can you give me a clue as to what is happening?

It would be helpful to have the full model number of the whirlpool dishwasher.

Is the second phase of the wash actually complete? Is the dishwasher completely drained out when the 2nd phase of wash is finished?

please respond to the second part of my query to you. Thanks for providing the model number.

In that case it appears the cycle is completing but the detergent dispenser door is not operating.

Possibly a stuck solenoid or spring. Need to get into the door and check it out.

See this diagram for details. Item 4 is the actuator. Hope this helps.

Please rate the solution if ok else post a comment so that I can help you further.

I have a whirlpool gu2400 dishwasher. The spring loaded soap dispenser door does not open during the wash cycle to release the soap.

Whirlpool dishwashers use a wax motor or a solinoid to release the door at a specific time during the cycle. So for proper cleaning the soap cup is nessesary . The part isn't that expensive and fairly simple repair.

Soap dispenser cover latch will not stay in the hole. So now the soap holder will not stay closed.

Hi
Dishwashers use Bi-Metal strip to allow the dispenser to open/close. This strip when heat up causes the soap door spring to open up the dispenser. If this strip is not heated doesn't allow the door to open. The strip may not be getting 120V or maybe disconnected. Newer (plastic liner) dishwashers use a wax motor to open the soap dispenser. The plunger inside the wax motor slowly moves and pushes the plunger and door open. And, if this wax motor doesn't receive 120 volts, then it'll not work. Please check the voltage to the wax motor/Bi-metal strip; also inspect the connections to these. Hope this helps...

My FDB1050REC0 soap dispenser doesnt open

More than likely it's the dispenser that's faulty. They use a wax motor to open the dispenser, which is prone to failing. I'd order the dispenser, then you remove 2 phillips screws that hold your front panel on, then you'll see the 6 screws that hold the dispenser in place.

Whirlpool Gold Quiet Partner IV issue with soap dispenser

This happened to me as well. I think I solved the problem. It started when I first lowered the top rack. In doing so, the door doesn't open all the way. It also won't open all the way if your cutlery rack is in the front and you've put large utensils like a spatula. Consequently, detergent dried under the latch and it wouldn't firmly catch. For months I put up with it never emptying completely. The other day I took a tooth brush and very hot water and cleaned under the latch. After, I could feel a difference in the way the latch operated (with greater pop on opening). So far its been doing fine. Hope this helps.

Dishsoap stays in soap dispenser

ok, either a spring, trigger prob, on the latch, or a electronic prob. ok so to see if the latch is ok (or not) look closely for soap residue and scum, that may be hindering the latch or spring under. use metho, and warm water to clean this part. secondly go down to a white goods repair place and take your electrical component, button, lights its all one unit, simple unscrew it, i do think you will need a set of torque screws for that tho... anyhow ask the guy to get you a new or second hand one and install it. the timer will run, and the clip will release. good luck!
