Question about GPS

Jensen GPS charger adapter

I have a Jensen GPS and the charger cord that goes from the GPS to the vehicle DC power receptacle does not work anymore and I can't find a replacement. I bought my GPS a yr ago and use it all the time and I am lost without it. Could you please let me know where to get a new cord. I tried a cell phone charger but it didn't fit properly and won't work.
Thankyou,
Lynn Smith

Just get a standard 5 volt charger. Most 5 volt chargers use the same plug size. My jensen uses the same charcher as my pocket pc and my mp4 player.

Why does my garman not come on when plugged into car power source, and power light shows green light?

Your car adapter wiring might be faulty.. Green light shows it is receiving power from your cig socket but there isn't any power from the adapter to the plug to your gps..

My Garmin doesn't work in the car with the adaptor anymore. It starts up then goes off.... When I use the USB to the computer it comes on fine..... what could be the problem?

I would suspect that the cars 12 volt socket is dead or that the charger cord for the car is defective, use a DC volt meter and test for 12 volts in the car socket, if that is ok replace the car charger for your Garmin, u can buy them cheap on ebay.

Not charging

Hello brocstar,

You could have a problem either with the power cord itself or the DC input jack on your GPS.

When you say you wiggled the "power lead" to fix the problem I believe you are referring to the actual power cord. If so, it's possible that the cord has a short that has progressively gotten worse and eventually caused the cord to fail. In that case it should be a relatively simple fix to simply replace the power cord and that's where I would start.

If replacing the power cord doesn't work then the problem likely is with the GPS itself and the unit may need factory service to repair the DC jack, battery or charge circuitry.

Hope this helps,
Ken

GPS Car Power Cord Replacement

Any cigarette lighter 12 volt power adapter will work, as long as it fits. Take your unit to Best Buy, Fry's, Walmart, or Circuit City and match the plug that goes into the unit to a new one. The other end will plug into the car lighter socket. Check the gps section of the electronics department. They will have one that works.
