Question about Alpine Car Audio & Video

1 Answer

I have a '97 Topyota Tacoma (bought it used) and it had an Alpine CHA S604 6CD radio/changer installed in 1997. Someone broke into my truck and stole the faceplate (duh!). Now I need to remove the radio from the dash to replace it. How do I get it out??? Thnx, Bert

I have found something (a straightened out corner bracket) that will slip into the slots on the sides of the radio deck, BUT - what is supposed to happen when I insert this bracket? Is there an internal "button" to push, or simply pry on it, or what?

    Thanks so much,

    Bert

When I push it in about 4 inches, it comes up against something solid. I kinda expected to feel some kind of "release button", but it is just a very solid feel that doesn't move. Can I push it in just an inch or so, then pry, or does it have to have a release button pushed first?

    Thnx, Bert

I think we have a little confusion going on here, the CHA S604 is a 6 CD change as you mentioned... there is no faceplate to this unit, it is just a solid "cd changer" unit with the removable disc changer portion. There is a radio attached to this, and it has a faceplate on it but it will have a different model number.

Regardless though it will pop out from the dash with a little prying from a flat head screwdriver, or by the use of a "key" which is the proper method. The key I refer to is a little metal device that comes with the head unit (radio - player) and slides into the sides and "pops" the deck out of the dash. Hardly anyone keeps these keys, especially for a player as old as this one, chances are it's long gone. To be the most gentle to your car possible I recommend you swing it by a local car audio place and see if they can just pop it out for you... most places will do this for free since they know many people don't keep their keys to the radios and want to offer good customer service... hoping you will buy a radio from them.

It literally takes like 20 seconds with the key to get it out... I would see if you can find someone to help you do this. If you want - please reply with your zip code and I will find someone in your area.

Thanks,
Tim

You just insert it along the side and it will allow you to basically pry it out... push it in far enough and you should feel it release a bit so you can pry it out..

    Thanks

There is no release button, you can just push it in and pry it out. Try pushing it against that item that feels solid, it may push and release. But there is definitely no "button" per-say.

    Thanks

I have a 2000 BMW 528i and an Alpine CHA-614 CD changer. I bought the Soundgate interface and hooked everything up per the instructions. The changer has power since I can remove the cartridge, but doesn't...

it could be the interface is bad. i just tested on with brand new changer..and it did the exact same thing yours did. its either the interface or the factory radio is bad. i would think the interface.

Looking for magazine for alpine chm 5620

The Alpine CHA- and CHM- changers all use the same magazine. You can search eBay or google shopping for "Alpine CHM Magazine" and you should see a variety of sellers, with prices from 25ish for used ones up to 40ish for new ones.

Can a CHM-S601 hook up to a 1997 ford F-150?

It won't work if the radio doesn't have a cd changer input. The radio/receiver has to have been designed/programmed to interface with the changer since that is what the changer is controlled through.

I'm looking for a cd cartridge for my alpine cha-5624 cd changer

You may be able to contact Alpine directly and order the cartridge from them. The cartridge themselves are very hard to find. The only other suggestion I have is to check eBay. Sometimes you can get the entire changer broken for cheap and just use it for parts.
