Are you outside with the unit? It was made in Kansas and has Olathe, Kansas as it's default starting point. However, when you take the unit outside and it gets a satellite signal, it should find where it is currently. If not, the GPS might be turned off (for indoor use). Turning the unit off for a few seconds and then on again outside should put it in the proper mode to receive satellite signals. Let me know if this helps.
You need to go outside with a clear view of the sky and get a satellite fix with the unit turned on (usually a couple of minutes), Then the maps will show your current position. By entering your address you are trying to create a route from current position to your destination. By default the current position is set for Kansas (Garmin US office), but once you have locked onto the satellite your current postion will be the last position before the unit was turned off.
Take the unit outside, so it knows where it is (you cannot tell it you want it to go from a location to another without being at one of the locations). Once the unit has a satellite fix, press Where To? Then press Address. When West Virginia and Spell State come up, press Spell State. Enter Florida (or start to, until the unit pulls it up, then press it). Then press Spell City, and enter Crystal River, then the house number and street name or number. Press Go! and you are on your way.
