Question about Kensington Comfort Type Wireless Optical Desktop Keyboard 64355

Apple key no longer working

Hi,

This is driving me crazy! I upgraded my macbook pro OS to Leopard, and for some reason the Apple key on my Kensington keyboard (which I have attached to my laptop via USB) is no longer registering! If I hit apple-s, for example, to save, instead I get "ß". So I guess it's registering with my computer as option/alt instead.

Obviously the apple key is pretty essential for me, and reaching to my keyboard on the laptop is getting annoying... Any tips?

Thanks!

well... i guess i figured it out. the option key with the window symbol now works as the apple key. i'll get used to it, i guess.

hope this helps anyone else who has the keyboard switch on them!

The Kensington keyboard is being recognised as a PC-style keyboard, and the software has swapped the action of Apple (Command) and Alt (Option). Go to System Preferences > Keyboard and Mouse, and set the Modifier keys correctly in the Keyboard panel.

How to upgrade my macbook pro to Yosemite

Apple has made this feature free, and fairly simple. You should first make sure you have a backup of your hard drive on an external drive (easiest to complete with the TimeMachine feature of your Macbook Pro).

  • Open the App Store app and select the Featured or Top Charts tab. You can search for Yosemite, although Top Charts will usually list it as #1 in the Top Free apps.

  • Click on the Download button for Yosemite wherever it appears (either in the search list, or in Top Charts). Follow the prompts.

  • Depending on your connection speed and the specs of your macbook pro, the installation will take one to four hours.
    • Of course, you will have to have an Apple ID to download anything from the App Store.
    • If you don't have an Apple ID and don't know how to get one, please ask another question on FIXYA.

CAN I UPGRADE FROM OS X LEOPARD 10.5 TO MAVERICKS

Nope, yo can upgrade to osx lion (10.7 max),
Apple says you'll need a better graphics card if you want to use mavericks.
Your macbook has a Intel GMA x3100 which is unsupported.

Try osx lion if you hace 4gb of RAM. It's cool :)

Cheerio :)

I have Mac OS X 10.5.8 need to upgrade to 10.6

The PowerBook G4 line was the last generation of the PowerBook series, and was succeeded by the Intel-powered MacBook Pro line in the first half of 2006. The latest version of OS X any PowerBook G4 can run is Mac OS X Leopard, released in 2007.[
Your computer is too old.

I am running OS X 10.4.11 and would like to upgrade my operating system?

Please provide more information.
To what would you like to upgrade it?

Since OSX Mavericks was just announced, I'm going to assume that's what you're wanting to upgrade to.

Not all Macs can run Mavericks.

Mavericks Capable Macs

Mavericks, like its predecessor Mountain Lion, requires one of the following Macs with at least 2 GB of RAM and 8 GB of available hard drive space:
  • iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
  • MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
  • MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
  • MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
  • Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
  • Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
  • Xserve (Early 2009)

If your Mac isn't one of the ones listed above, you won't be able to upgrade.

If you have an iMac, MacBook, MacBook Pro, or Mac mini model that was originally released in Early/Mid 2006, the latest version of Mac OS X your system supports is Snow Leopard.

Macbook black will not start beyond the initial 'bong'. Blue screen followed by endless spinning gear. PRAM, SMV reset, no go. Safe mode can't complete. With battery or on power adapter same result....

Hello yang2699tlk,
Try this instead of using your Leopard Disc.

  1. Immediately after the "bong" press and hold down "Command + S".
  2. Wait for blinking cursor and then type fsck -y (exactly like that).
  3. If you receive an "Appears to be OK" then type reboot and hit the return key.
  4. If you receive a "Disk has been modified" then repeat the fsck -y command until you get an "Appears to be OK" then type reboot and hit the return key.

This set of commands entered in "Single User Mode" will repair your disk. If this does not work remove the hard drive, plug it into another Mac and transfer your data to a different computer. Then install a new hard drive and reinstall Mac OS X.

Hope this helps, don't forget to vote. Thanks.
