how do I receive a fax without having to print from the memory list & not having to be told to check for the fax? I want to receive fax like any other fax machine

  • Bob Kitaji Mar 31, 2011

There are a number of options for setting up the fax function. The best bet is to download the manual and go to the "Fax" section of the user manual. http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/co...
Let me know if you have any other questions. thanks.

If you are able to print normally from this model, despite the 'stuck' faxes, then it could be that you have been sent a document that is not the same size as that in your tray. Try cutting A4, if that is what you have, down to 'legal' and see if will move on to next page. If this works, cut some more and print job till finished.
If the above makes no difference, you may have to do a memory reset to clear a corrupt fax record. Caution! this would clear all faxes queued in your machine.

How do I clear the in use alarm on a canon mx340 printer?

The in use alarm appears to be related to fax reception and printing. There are some options below that you could try:-
Memory Reception If the machine receives a fax under one of the following conditions, it will not be able to print the received fax and will store it in its memory. The In Use/Memory lamp is lit and Received in memory is displayed on the LCD. When the problem is resolved as described, the fax stored in memory is printed automatically.
  • Ink has run out: Replace the FINE Cartridge.
    i_green_arrow.gifRoutine Maintenance
    i_note_e.gifNote
    • You can set the machine to forcibly print a received fax even if the ink has run out.
However, part or all of the fax may not be printed since the ink has run out.
Also, the contents of the fax will not be stored in memory.
If the ink has already run out, we recommend that OFF be selected for Auto print in FAX user settings to store the received fax in memory and print the fax manually after replacing the FINE Cartridge. After you replace the FINE Cartridge and select ON for Auto print, the fax stored in memory will be printed automatically.
  • Paper has run out: Load the paper and press the OK button.
  • A different size of paper from that specified by Page size is loaded:
Load the same size of paper as that specified by Page size, then press the OK button.
  • Page size is set to other than A4, 8.5"x11"(LTR), or Legal (or 8.5"x14"):
Set Page size to A4, 8.5"x11"(LTR), or Legal (or 8.5"x14").
  • Media type is set to other than Plain paper:
Set Media type to Plain paper.
  • You pressed the Stop button to cancel printing of a fax:
    Press the FAX button
Alternatively turn the printer off, open the devices and printers section of Control Panel, right click on your printer and select "see what's printing" and left click on this. A window will pop up which may or may not contain a list of documents. If it does these must be cancelled (Menu - Printer - Cancel all documents). Once all documents have gone from the list turn the printer on and try to print.
Other than the above suggestions I would need to know more about your OS and exact problem. Hope this helps.

How do i fax with this unit

Unlike many all-in-ones, this model can be used as a standalone fax machine. Just connect the printer to a phone line and set up the usual basic information (your name and the phone number that will print on the receiver's fax machine, etc.). After that it's like using any other fax machine. This page at Canon has links to helpful information about faxing.

I want to connect my fax from my cannon mx340 and dont have a instuction manuel can some help me?

Plug in the RJ-11 cable at the phone jack and the MX340. Press the Fax button and then the Menu button to get the Fax Settings menu. Press the left/right arrows to highlight Fax Receive Mode. Then press OK. Select Telephone Priority Mode (you will always pick up the handset and then put it down if the call is a fax. If an answering machine is connected the Fax will be automatically answered), Fax Priority Mode (the fax will be automatically received. If you hear the machine's ringtone, pick up the handset and press Stop to answer the call.), Fax only or DRPD (distinctive ring - available extra from your telephone company). Press OK to save the setting. If you choose DRPD, you will need to teach the distinctive ring by calling the MX340 after setting the machine to listen to the ring. (See the manual.) To fax out, press Fax, put your item to fax face up in the ADF and then dial the fax number of your receipient.

Canon has the manuals for the Pixma MX340 available here: http://usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/printers_multifunction/office_all_in_one_inkjet_printers/pixma_mx340?selectedName=BrochuresAndManuals#BrochuresAndManuals .

I hope this helps.

Does the line from wall go where the phone picture is? On Canon MX340

That sounds right. Most machines also have a jack for an extension phone or answering machine. That would be marked EXT in most cases.
A quick test is to use it to call any other phone, even your cell phone. If your phone rings and squeals annoyingly when you answer it, you know the fax can call out.
Of course, to fully test it, you need another fax machine to call.

How to hook up cable phone to work fax and answering machine on a cannon Pixma mx340

From the wall your phone cable should go into the fax/printer. Then a phone cable should go from the printer to your phone.

There should be icons next to each jack on the back of the printer which indicates where to connect the cable.

It should work from there, but you might have to go to settings and set up the fax settings such as how many singals should it ring before the fax picks up the line.

Can send a fax but cant receive one

The only way I could receive one was to set it to FAX only (after someone called me to say they were sending a fax) ... then it stores it in memory and you have to go through the FAX menu to print stored documents. I cannot figure out how to set it up so that phone has priority, but when a fax comes through to accept the fax. I tried the Phone prioroity and DRPD settings.
Remember to change the setting from FAX ONLY to one of the others so that your phone will work again.
