Download a Malware/Spyware search and destroy problem form cnet.com, a good one I have used is MALWAREBYTES, yes that is the name of it and it works. Another way around the problem is to do system recovery to an earlier date that the problem wasn't present. System recovery is located in the system tools menu.

try another more experienced repair shop, consider the age of the pc and if worth contacting gateway direct, they are good via email or chat.,

SOURCE: Gateway- built-in laptop Speakers not working

Heat dissipation from the unit in the same area of the speaker assembly, especially since you stated that the RIGHT speaker was smoked. Similar problems occur with this design flaw with any manufacturer as HP has the same problem with some of their models.

Your heat exhaust is killing the speaker, and I would also bet that your chipset is AMD and not Intel, the latter having solved it's heat dissipationn problems.

A more aggressive heat dissipation solution on the motherboard or redirection of the exhaust past fewer heat sensitive components would be a design goal.

SOURCE: Where do I get a system recovery disc for a gateway GT4016??

Well the quick and dirty answer to this would simply be to order a replacement set directly from Gateway

If you check in with different computer repair centers in your local area, you can also check in with them, see if the technicians there keep a library of restore disks. I work at a tech shop myself, and we usually carry an extensive library of different restore disks for various notebooks and desktops.

SOURCE: Can I replace my gateway T-6836 laptop 250 gb hardrive

Yes, it can be upgraded for a larger drive. The important specs to know are the physical size and the interface. The size that this computer needs is the 2.5 inch and the interface is the SATA. These are the typical size and interface used today so finding a drive that fits should not be a problem.

Hope this helps.

Hi dmwm1996

There is a few things you can do to speed your computer back up...
1...Clean up your hard disk...
Go to Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Cleanup

2...Defrag your Hard Drive...
Go to Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Defragmenter

3...Add the maxium amount of ram to your computer that is allowed

4...Clean any old programs, files, pictures, etc off of your computer that you no longer use.

5...Last but not least...
Your computer may be loaded with spyware, virus's, trojans, etc. and that will make your computer run slow also.
To get rid of any spyware, virus, trojan, etc you will need to do the following:

These are programs that are online sites where you surf team. Different spyware programs do different things on your computer, and its most common objective is to continue what you do. The registry file on your computer to manage applications and hardware should be performed, and that the probability of errors in the register is very high, especially for users who have used computers a year. It 'important to constantly clean the registry of the computer to make sure the computer is in good condition. My yahoo has become VERY slow moving. I wait 30-40 seconds each time I do something.

I suggest you perform a malware or spyware scan. Download spyware hunter.google it.
Run the spyware scan and remove all detected spywares. after that i suggest running a full system virus scan using Kaspersky, bitdefender, or any other anti virus you may have.

I have a gateway and am not very good with it yet. when i turn it on it shows a threat detected, trojan horse psw generic.bejdc./roger/locals //temp/123.dll. i have avg 7.5 virus protection ihave used both...

Check to see if AVG has the option to scan the computer before windows start. I would also download and install a Spyware Scanner and run it. Usually when you are running a Spyware scan it will also pick up some of the Trojans and help your virus scanner detect and clean more viruses. I personally use SuperAntispyware ( www.superanitspyware.com) and SpyBot ( www.safer-networking.org/ ). Do a full scan and delete everything that if finds. If for some reason you are still having this issue, try restarting your computer into safe mode ( by pressing F8 when computer is booting up) and scanning every in safe mode.

Hope this helps.

Sony Vaio VGN-FS980 is slow

Aside from hardware many things can slow up your PC:
  • If the C: drive is too full Windows is unable to allocate a proper virtual memory cache on the drive.
  • Your chosen anti-virus solution can even slow certain machines down (post what your running)
  • A high % of the time it is spyware/malware related
Just to make sure the machine is completely malware free you should download and run this program.
