Hello. When you do not have a filter in the furnace there is nothing to stop dust and dirt that the fresh air intake sucks into the furnace from being blown through out your house. Definitely put a filter in the furnace to prevent folks from having allergy attacks and other ailments. Joe

4 thumbs up please. ty.

Ruud Achiever 80. How do I replace the filter?

if its not on the outside of furnace where cold air duct goes in, and you dont have a high efficency filter, which may not look like what your used to, it will be on the inside of the bottom door where blower is located. If its a standard filter, it should be changed monthly, so you may have a really really dirty furnace and this requires immediate attention to avoid fire hazards and part/blower failure and overall efficency.

I install the filters in my york furnance and now heat fan just runs. take out the filters furnace works fine

Did you happen to notice with the filters in a blinking light on the PC Board? You may have to look through a small viewing port in the lower section of the front panel because if you open the filter door, you will erase the code. If you get a blinking code, look at the reverse side of the top front panel for a wiring diagram and diagnostic error code chart. It will direct you to where you should start looking. I suspect you may have registers closed and not enough returning air to the furnace.

Every manufacture recommends you have your furnace checked and cleaned on an anual basis to keep itrunning safely and at it's top efficiency. If the filter is plugged or the blower wheel plugged, the furnace will shut itself off. Make sure all registers are uncovered - suppply and return registers.
