Question about Swift Optics

1 Answer

I have a Swift Holiday Mark II, 7x35 extra wide field, model #766 binocular that was dropped into a lake. I was able to retrieve it but, needless to say, they are very waterlogged. Would they be repairable or should I just forget it. I have gotten very good use from them over the years and would like to fix them if it is at all doable. Thank you. I reread the description of my problem with my Swift binoculars and realized I wasn't clear on what I was looking for. I do want the binoculars repaired if possible, however I was looking for a third party to do the repair. Perhaps the binocular manufacturer or an outside repair service. Do you know of any business/person who does such repairs? Thank you. Arthur Rinetti

There is no real reason why they couldn't be effectively recovered. They would need to be completely disassembled and cleaned in Alcohol, (Keep it away from any plastic/rubber parts though) parts re-lubed where necessary and reassembled after it had been dried and cleaned up.

Eyecup part for Tasco binocular - 7x35

Eyepiece cushions for binoculars, telescopes, microscopes ... are all about the same size (Because our eyes are all about the same size!), and can be easily made from bicycle inner-tube material of the appropriate diameter. Measure the outside diameter of the eyepiece and ask a bike shop for the right tube inside diameter; a few mm smaller. Cut a section about twice the "depth" of the cushion you wish to have, roll the section over itself and stretch it around the eyepiece with the uncut (rolled) edge uppermost.

Do you mean the Swift Audubon 8.5x44? If so, for the new model 820 contact Swift Sports Optics. If it's the older model 804 ask around in the forums such as Cloudy Nights. The new model 820 is rubber coated. The old models have a grey crinkle finish.
