I would have to say probably not. If you have no power at all (no stand by light) then I would suspect a blown fuse , check plug , If you havestand by light nothing else i would think capacitors in power supply are leaky. Capacitors are cheap , easy to replace but not for a novice, Capacitors usually swell up when old and can easilly be spotted to the trained eye.

Magnavox tv won't turn on or off

Hello,

The typical cause of power up problems in a failure of the power supply filter capacitors. The board can be repaired by replacing the bad components. Below is a picture of the power supply board with the bad capacitors circled and below that is a link to a it that is available with the correct parts to rebuild that board.

I Have a Magnavox 42MF531D with no picture and when it is plug in, I hear a chirpping sound.

Problem will be either in power supply circuit board or something loading power supply down.

Someone first would need to test voltages in and out of the power supply to see what is wrong.

Screen goes out but sound remains

A blown fuse would not be intermittant.

It is possible that the back plane lamps, and or the back plane power supply is failing.

When the set is in the dark screen, shine a flashlight on the screen at an offset angle. Look carefully and see if you see the picture images. If so, this proves that the back plane lighting is having a fault condition. If there is no image at all, then there may be a fault condition with one of the drive boards for the picture processing or the screen itself.
