Question about ASUS P4P800-MX Motherboard

1 Answer

Cannot install a sound card

Obtained Cmedia 8338 based PCI sound card.
Drivers appear to need some DOS knowledge, Which I dont have BUT main problem is;
Once the card is in and machine booted the PS/2 mouse freezes.

Every time.

Any advice appreciated

    Of course I did try both usb and port mice [ mouses?]
    As soon as the card is installed it locks the computer on boot, after reaching full windows load stage, expressing same as inoperative mouse, while the keyboard also won't work. Switch off, remove card and puter works fine, as normal.
    The lesson for me is that all PCI cards do not seem to be compatible with all PCs then? Does everyone know this or is it a rogue card?
    Got it on ebay for about fifteen bucks - postage paid and postage back makes it a pointless exercise returning it!
    Sorry I was a little churlish and selfish in my response to what was an obvious suggestion, the idea of these forums is to help one another and I am probably not the only dummy with potential to benefit from any intechange.
    Will buck up in the future - promise.

Toshiba Satellite 2805 -- need DOS sound card drivers.

You pretty much need to know the name of the card to find the right drivers.
I'm trying to harken back to the days of yore, to remember if my 3.1 system even had a device manager in the control panel, but maybe I'd have to be sitting in front of it again. That old 386...
Try running DEVMGMT.MSC: (opens Device Manager ) at a command prompt and see if you can't find a listing for the sound card installed on your system, but I think this didn't work back then.
I've had good luck finding a variety of drivers here, for what it's worth. You might also try the small list of archive file available here

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread. If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take a moment to kindly rate this post....thanks!
