Hello

these links below have information (drivers, solutions) for your laptop, that will assist you.. review them , i am sure this will give you background causing BLACK display on your screen.

If there is a problem with the LCD display's back light or a corrupted graphics driver, the display may appear blank but the notebook may be displaying information. Attach an external monitor to test the display. If the image displays on the external monitor, there may be a graphics driver conflict. To resolve this, turn on the computer and press f8 key, then select Enable low-resolution video . If the image displays on the LCD display in low resolution, you can download and install the latest drivers for your specific graphics driver. If there is an image on the external monitor but the notebook display remains black, contact HP for technical assistance.

If the computer turns on but you have no video there are two possible problems. First the simple one to check, you can connect a monitor to the laptop with a VGA cable. If you can see the image on the monitor then the Laptop Screen or parts within are bad. OK that's out of the way.
The second and most common is that the graphics chip has overheated and has melted the solder. This causes the chip to not make complete contact and not produce an image. Look up HP DV9000 reflow and you will see videos and lots of tutorials. But these fixes only last a few months. The cooling design in these older laptops are not good enough for all the heat generated by the Processor and the Graphics chip. Newer laptops that combine both into one chip are the way to go. I would take out the Hard drive and throw the rest away. Buy a new one and move your stuff from the old drive to the new computer. But you always have the option of trying the fixes. Taking apart laptops is a very time consuming job with lots of screws and parts.

Hi ive got a HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop with a black screen ,i have tried a external monitor and i have checked the ram but still black screen ,the lights are on and the fan is running..please help

Hi,

Just try to power cycle the unit by removing all power sources (battery, ac adapter) and pressing the power button for at least 15 seconds. If this will not work and you did not get an image from the external monitor, then you need your motherboard replaced.

Good luck.

HP pavillion dv9000 screen went dead -- black

Due to the overheating issues with the dv9000's it's more than likely the motherboard has gone bye bye. You can try plugging your laptop to a regular desktop monitor to see if it's the screen; but you would have heard it chime on if that was the case. Unless you had your volume muted before the incident. Try checking the RAM (one by one), then remove the hard drive and see if you see any graphics. If none of those work, prepare for a dv9000 funeral or punt!

I have a DV9000 whos screen goes black immed after power up

try to press F8 continuously before the microsoft image until you get different options. select "Safe Mode" on the options using your UP or DOWN cursor keys then hit ENTER. if it works and boots up then you can use the windows operating system disc to repair it. if it still does the same thing then you might need to reformat and reinstall the windows vista operating system...

Hello jarkk, I believe your problem is with your backlight inverter. the hard drive should be installed for this process of checking it on an external monitor. with the hard drive removed it will not boot to the operating system. with the drive in, use the external monitor. if the monitor works when plugged into the external monitor plug, this will eliminate a bad video card. if the screen is still black on the laptop screen, replace your backlight inverter. the last case cenario is to make sure your backlights are not burnt out.

Hp pavilion ze4930us notebook pc is dead

Hi danielb59,

Let do troubleshooting together.

First) if possible, connect a external monitor to your laptop. If you get a picture on the external monitor, then this means your pc is ok but the monitor screen on the laptop has gone bad.

Second) if the monitor screen on the laptop has gone bad, most likely the inverter component on the screen went bad (inverter provide back light). The inverter is replaceable but I do not know what they run. If your laptop is still under warranty, then please allow the manufacturer to fix it.

Those are your choices. Hopefully it helps and good luck.

Black screen not booting

check both your power and video connections to the monitor, sounds more like a monitor power issue.
if the connections appear ok, but screen still blank, try connecting a known good working monitor from somewhere else and see if it works with your pc, if it does, your original monitor is faulty, if it doesn't, you have a pc video issue.
