You can try, but instead of purchasing it rather take your PC to a computer shop and tell them that you would like to install 2GB of RAM, would they please see if it would work. If it works then you can purchase it and if it doesn't then you wouldn't have wasted your time and money on some-thing that you have no use for.

Happy upgrade, all the best!

If you does not know a minimum and are not very careful (static electricity, handling errors, wrong connectors ), your computer will be out completely, even with a manual.

My packard bell computer has a maximum of one gig of ram in two slots. Can I upgrade to two gigs of ram, even though it says one gig is the maximum. thank you.

You can log on to one of 2 sites, Crucial or Orca, both ram suppliers.

http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/drammemory.aspx

http://www.orcalogic.co.uk/asp/default.asp

They have a scan function or you can load your laptop model details, the first is easiest.

After scanning, the web site will tell you what ram you have got, how much you have got and how much you can use.

Both sites are reputable, you don't have to buy from them, but the remember to note down all the
details before you buy more ram.

Ram is very specific, if you get the wrong sort,k it won't work.

Packard bell imedia desktop pc upgrade

Changing the hard disk will not give you any noticeable performance gain, only some extra space. Just get the biggest you can find.
On the other hand your system could definitely be improved by a new video card. The best one, even a little overkill, for your system is something like

Your RAM is not working properly. Remove your RAM from your RAM slot brush it with a dry brush and reattach in your RAM slot, if not then your RAM slot is damaged.

I have tried to upgrade my Packard Bell Imedia 1559 to 4 gigs from 1 gig of factory installed memory. However, the machine will not accept memory from Kingston or Transcend in any combination, and although...

I have read many posts about the PB Imedia and problems trying to upgrade memory. Sounds like there are some motherboard issues with this PC . Some have reported success with mixing different memory types and speeds, but no real answers as to why.

You may have to check the voltage that powers the memory. Some memory sticks are rated at 1.8v , others use other voltages that will hang your system if mixed.

Check with the manufacturer for their recommendation.
