Had the same problem for a while, not
been able to find any useful info anywhere.
Got a little bored today and decided to
have a go myself.
First remove the battery.
The exterior zipped cover is glued to
the plastic electronics compartment, careful prising (the cover is
fairly flexible) can loosen the glue enabling you to remove the

you will see the the pcb that the dock connector is attached to,
along with lots of glue holding the wires for the speakers.
Unscrew the pcb and remove all the pcb
connectors (all glued secure), then you will have access to the side
you need to solder.
Now all you need is a hawk-eyed
soldering genius as the tabs on the connector are extremely fine and

the dock connector to the pcb for added future security.
