Question about AutoCommand Remote Car Starter Add-On

1 Answer

98 chevy truck Z71- When using the remote starter every thing works good except the engine light comes on with transmission codes stored in memory. The transmission then has a shifting problem until codes are cleared. This remote starter was installed about five years ago and never figured out what to do to repair problem. Hopefully someone can help. Thanks, James

The remote start system has been improperly installed. This is a common occurrence for the vehicle that you have. To correct the problem, you need to make sure that the vehicle's primary ignition (pink), ignition #2 (orange) and ignition #3 (white) wires are connected to separate ignition sources from the remote starter. This may require the addition of relays depending on the number of high current ignition outputs available from the remote start module.
If you have the model #25622 remote start installed than you need 2 extra relays. The relay terminals need to be wired as follows:

30 = to vehicle extra ignition wire
87 = to 12V constant source (fused at 20A)
87a = no connection
86 = to r/s module thick green wire
85 = to chassis ground

Both relays need to be wired the same way.

How can i find out what's wrong with the transmission in my 99' Chevy Silverado Z71?

Have you checked the fluid level? Plus the color of the fluid. It could just need a transmission fluid & filter change.

The following are the general instructions on the start of diagnosing any electronically controlled engine or transmission problem.

The engine and the automatic transmission (transmission control is only for automatics, engine is still computer controlled no matter the transmission type) in this vehicle are computer controlled and in most cases when a fault occurs a fault code is stored in the memory of the computer control module. There are exception to this, such as the Mass Airflow Meter and fuel pressure problems. What must be done is to have all the basic testing done such as a scan of the system for fault codes as well as a check with a live data scanner tool for engine functions that are not within range of normal, a trained technician is required to know what is correct and what isn't, then based on careful diagnostics done from a factory repair manual the correct part is replaced or the wiring repaired or the computer replaced (known as the PCM), which is very rarely the problem. Other basic checks must be done as well such as mechanical problems with the engine as well as engine state of tune and mileage on the engine. The transmission can have mechanical issues as well such as no gear engagement at all or a failed pump or other pressure related problems. Also engine mechanical problems ca cause many drive-ability related problem such as rough idle and other symptoms

98 chevy 5.7 z71 misses when 1st cranked

Hello
The engine and transmission in this cars drive train are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM (Power Train Control Module). Whenever a problem like this occurs the computer stores a record of the problem (there are of course some exceptions to this, like the fuel pump for instance) in the form of a fault code in its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and resolve the problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL THE DIAGNOSIS & TESTING IS COMPLETED.

My remote start is not working and the service engine light is on in my 09 chevy impala. what could the problem be?

The Factory remote start is disabled any time the check engine light is on. You'll need to find out what is causing the check engine light to come on by using a scan tool/code reader to read the codes stored in the computers memory.

You can buy a basic code reader for about $50 and do this yourself. You could buy a nice scan tool for $3,500 to $10,000 and again do this yourself.

You can also call your local auto parts store. Sometimes they will read codes for free. Please do not buy what every they think is the problem.

The last thing you can do is head into your local shop or dealer if under warranty and have them do the diagnostic test to see what the codes are and why they are being triggered. There is usually a set fee for this.

Some common things that come to mind that would cause a check engine light are, Low coolant temperature, loose/missing gas cap, Catalytic converter inefficiency, and maybe an O2 sensor code.

Good luck and let us know what codes you find.

2001 Chevy Impala won't start

If the battery has gone dead, it could cause the security system to go into full lock-up mode. If it has locked up the accessories will work after the battery is charged back up , but the power to the starter will be cut off and it wont turn over. You need to do the 30 minute learn procedure. A GM dealer will print it out for you and you can do it yourself. It's very simple if you follow the procedure exact. hope this helps and good luck.

2000 chevy impala will not start with remote start

There are several things that can cause this.
A common cause for this is that the check engine light is, or has been been on. When the check engine light comes on, a trouble code is stored in the computer. Most trouble codes will cause the remote start to become inoperative. Repair of the check engine light code is needed first. A scan of the system will show any stored codes.
Another cause is a faulty hood ajay switch.
