Question about Compaq Evo N600c Notebook

1 Answer

I have a 2002 Compaq Evo N600c that has been sitting in a closet for a year. I have just connected it via a Netgear card to my Verizon wireless network. My wireless network connection says I have "Very Good" signal strength and shows 23 packets sent and 0 received. I can't access any websites from IE. It says that those sites may not be viewed in Offline mode. Please help!

You may have to contact Verizon for this so they can connect you. They will ask for such things as your computers' MAC address which can be found on a sticker on the bottom of the computer chassis. The MAC address is a unique identifier for your computer. Much like a fingerprint no two are the same. The signal strength that your computer is showing you is rather misleading; it is meant for notifying you of the connection between it and the wireless signal being sent from another device such as a satellite or wireless router, NOT that you are actually receiving data from the internet. There are some other parameters and internet protocols that your computer will need to be set up for, all of which your internet service provider (Verizon) will get established for you over the phone. It shouldn't take more than 10 minutes.

Testimonial: "I called Verizon and apparently the WEP password written near our router stuff was changed from default and nobody updated our cheat sheet. Easy fix!"

When you hooked up external monitor, did you switch to it via "Fn" keys?
If it did not help, then it's GPU ot North Bridge on the board that needs service.

Can you try the card in another laptop to see if the problem is the laptop or the wireless card.

    Wireless network card driver

    Hello,

Go to this page and download the driver. Save it to a special folder so you can find it easily. The file names used give you no clue otherwise.

So, create these folders and save it to the last one:
    c:\software\drivers\wireless

Let me know if this resolves your problem as there are some other updates that may affect your laptop's wireless performance.

And, would you please let m know what wireless card you are using?

    Regards,
    Worldvet

I do believe that there is no wireless switch on that model. To enable or disable the card is done through software. Check your Device Manager to ensure it is enabled and or correct drivers.
