Samsung tv turning off by itself

Melody does not play when set turns off and on by itself, other problem is the screen shows halve a picture right side no picture left side shows picture its split in the middle left no picture right side picture. Now what I did when the screen is showing grainy as if dnle is off with normal colors you can do a demo in the picture set up screen basically its as if the dnle is on even though it was off in settings its on but with out the demo tags on the screen I can restore picture grayness by turning dnle off and on and if i press source when the screen halve is black it comes back normal but screen gets halve black again. When its hooked to cable sound goes of and comes back on and is losing tuner lock and displays ch 17 even though tv is on ch 3 . Tv is turning itself off picture goes dark and sound goes off and I hear the relay click and then after a cuple of seconds turns back on. When video input is being used the set turns on and off and if cable is connected directly to tv coax jack the tv sound after turning on and off eventually the sound goes out and will come back if set is powered down and turned back on. Voltage on cnb811 is 8.35v when set is on when off 8.80v reading from the redwire off powersupply and white wire reading off power supply is 00.3v dc when tv is off when on its 3.30v dc and so far tv turned itself off and on 10-15 times this happened only 1 time when set turns itself off and on white wire voltage goes from 3.30v to 00.3 then goes back to 3.30 when set has a picture.

tv turning on and off with clicking sound

  • Anonymous Oct 16, 2008

You can hear the tv turning itself off and on once it is turned on. It keeps doing this. Finally, I turn it off for a few seconds and try again. It does the same thing until it decides to remain on. Additionally, there are colored spots all over the screen while a picture is there. you have to turn it off and vback on again after a few seconds to get the spots out. This is happening very frequently.

I have a Samsung HLS5687W DLP. Just under 2 years old. First time TV turned itself off was furing final half inning of the world series.

Being a lifetime Phillies fan, i FREAKED. I was able to turn back in a minute later. Happened again - with 2 outs!!!! Same outcome.

It's now (11/4/08) happening at least once every other day since then.

It's not a normal shutdown. When it's turned off normally, the vent fan will stay on for an additional 2 minutes or so to vent out the bulb heagt buildout from the chassis. Not so during the unscheduled turn-offs. Checked the fan. it's working and does the normal post-turn off venting. But I can't help thinking is it heat related or heat damage related. I am going to try to vacuuming suggestion that i read in this thread. BTW, if the bulb is bad, you will get flashing light indicators (see owner manual) when it's time to replace. That GE tech was hoping for the fast solution. He's proabably rated on number of calls/visits he makes. Faster is better - for him.

  • duncan893 May 17, 2009

I had the same problem. It happens all the time randomly bt mostly at night. Our tv (when working) looks fine so am sure it is not the bulb. All help greatly appreciated. (I think it may be heat related?)

I had a similar problem where my 61" Samsung DLP was turning itself off very frequently I had resolved to try replacing the bulb. I called a local TV repair place to see if they had my buld in stock. The guy I spoke to actually told me how to fix my problem! There is a little blue switch behind the bulb access door. The inside of the door has a little piece that presses the switch down. The switch is supposed to work correctly weather the switch is in the up or down position but samsung forgot to take expansion from heat into account. If the switch is held in the upper position by the door and the plastic expands to a certain point, it triggers the set to shut off. This does not occur of the switch is held in the lower position. What you need to do is take the access door off and put it back on by sliding it into position from above. That will hold the switch in the down position, eliminating the problem. My set has not **** itself off ever since.

I have the same problem of the set turning off and on by itself. There is a circuit in Samsung TVs that would shut it down if a very loud noise occurs in the program being watched, but I have not noticed that correlation. My problem is solved by vacuuming the back panels of the set. They do not seem to have any significant dust on them, but I think the vacuum sucks somewhat inside of the TV and does some good with the fan that is supposed to be cooling the bulb and the mirror. It seems to work for months on end and when the problem recurrs, I vacuum again.

The turning on and off is probably heat related. I cured my problem along those lines by having a 4" Walmart fan blow into the back "door" of the set (where the bulb can be replaced). The turning on and off stopped completely. I think the set is getting too hot inside which the fan remedies. Somewhere in the literature I did read that the TV will turn itself off if it gets too hot so as to protect the electronics.

It could be the temp sensor going bad. This sensor sits on top of the metal housing which the bulb assembly slides into. The bulb assembly will have a hole on top and this is where the sensor is above. There is a small blue and white wire that plugs into it. If you pull the wire out and put a paper clip or wire in the coupling you will basically bypass the sensor connecting the blue and white wire. If your tv turns on then that is your problem. Its cheap too. Here were my symptoms..1] Turn tv on 2] Bulb would light up..(which eliminates the ballast) regular picture would show up (which eliminates the bulb and color wheel) 3] 30 seconds later tv would shut down with 3 flashing lights. After bypass the tv turned on as always and hasnt shut down yet. Always un plug tv first. Get the replacement part to avoid overheating and possible fire

My Samsung HLS5687W was turning off, sometimes every 10 minutes, and sometimes it would go for hours without a problem. I noticed it turned off more frequently when it was cold. There is a blue switch inside the bulb access door that needs to stay down that can trigger when the back panel expands and contracts with temperature changes. Vacuum the back, take off the bulb access door, replace from top to bottom and tighten. For extra measure I placed a small fan behind the tv and haven't had a problem since.

How to turn off music when turning on tv

Yes it is possible. You should be able to set the melody to off, low, medium or high

I believe you can get to the setting by doing this:
  • Press the MENU button to display the on-screen menu.
  • Press the up or down button to select "Setup", then press the ENTER button.
  • Select "Melody" by pressing the up or down button, then press the ENTER button.
  • Select the setting you want (Off) by pressing the up or down button
    repeatedly.
  • Press the ENTER button.
  • Press the EXIT button to exit.
You can find the manual here: http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/200804/20080401185600828_BN68-01507A-01Eng-0328.pdf

Tip

Turning off the Melody sound on a Samsung Television.

You have a Samsung television and you want to turn it on at night, and not wake up your house, or you are annoyed by the sound that the television makes when you turn the set on and off. Samsung incorporated a feature into the set that will play a melody to let you know that the set is either turning on or off, whichever the case may be.
If you want to turn off the melody you can follow the instructions below and that should take care of the annoying sound that is bugging you.
You may have a Samsung television and you remember when it had a melody when you turned it on and off and now that is gone. Well this tip can help you too. The same menu selection will allow you to enable the melody that is missing, and you can bring it back.
You can change the setting on your Samsung Television by selecting “Menu” then “Settings” and arrow down to “Melody”. There are four options; Off, Low, Medium, High. I personally would not select the high setting as it is very loud on my set. I guess if you have someone in your house that sneaks the television on and you want the loud melody to play, this could be a way of knowing when the set comes on. I hope that this helps you with your television issues and as always, Thank you for using FixYa.
I hope that you enjoy your television for years to come.

No way to defeat this stupid feature--it is controlled by the microprocessor in the set---unlike a door open chime in a car you cannot disconnect the sound.

The problem is most likely in the image processor area, or the backplane circuitry on the screen itself.
The service rep would be equipped to properly service your set. You should call LG to find out who in your area is able to service your set.
If the set is out of warranty it could be fairly expensive to service.

General reset procedure for DM tech is:
1. Have Analogue station showing,
2. Press display button on remote,
3. With display info panel in view on screen, press 1 1 Line buttons on remote, this should bring up reset menu on left hand side of screen.
4. use up/down arrow buttons on remote to select either Reset or EEPROM then use right arrow button on remote to select the appropriate procedure

NB - on my set, selecting OFF the annoying melody that plays when the TV is turned ON/OFF diasbles Digital TV (Freeview). Turning ON the annoying melody makes DigiTV work again!

Tv continues to turn on and off by itself..

When it shuts off by itself, does the blue circle screen under the "Samsung" label show a picture of a light bulb? If so, it's probably time to replace the lamp.
