If you are using Windows XP, please download the driver from here:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=dj-13586-3&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=304445&os=228

If you have Vista, you do not need any extra drivers. It should run with the Vista in-built drivers. See HERE

Should you have any different Operating System, please go to THIS page and select your OS for download.

If you wish, you can also order the software/drive on a CD. Please go here to do so:
https://warp2.external.hp.com/Driver/dr_country_select.asp?Product=C6490-61010&lang=en&cc=us

Hope that helps! Shoould you have any further queries, please post back and I will assist you as best I can..

Hi,
You can download the drivers from the following link

http://tinyurl.com/ye2jdv (if you are running on windows xp)
Do select the correct cable type connections from the driver list Ie. USB or parralel cable

If you are running on windows Vista , it would not need any drivers as vista installs the same automatically.

Thanks

    PLEASE NOTE

When installing drivers/software it is generally a good practice to -

    · Delete old/previous installs

    · Leave printers USB cable disconnected from computer until newly installed software requests it to be connected.

    Happy Printing.

Replaced ink cartridge 56 and black print text is

Hello,

Remove the cartridge and use a damp paper towel, wipe the bottom of the cartridge several times. Each time you wipe you should be getting black streaks on the paper towel. After manually cleaning the cartridge nozzles you will need to use a new tower and wipe the contacts on the back of the cartridge. When this is done reinstall it and run a cleaning and then an alignment procedure from the printer software. You should be printing good again.

I hope this helps, If so please rate our solution.

Hi there,
  • Unplug the printer cable from the computer.
  • Unistall the printer drivers from Device manager and also unistall the all the printer appications
  • restart the computer
  • try to download drivers from the website
  • after installing drivers and software it will ask you to connect the printer.
  • then you can connect the printer and and try to Print the test page.
To solve the printing problem..

# Hold the cartridge upside down, with the bar-code label facing you and take a damp paper towel.
# Use the towel to wipe the printhead of the cartridge on the bottom (where the ink comes out). Wipe the printhead horizontally in one direction only (left to right).
# Continue doing this until it looks clean.
# Then dab the cartridge on the towel to make sure the ink is flowing.
# Next, look inside the printer and locate the carrier that holds ink cartridges. Caution: Make sure the cartridges are not installed at this point.

1. Look for a shiny piece of metal underneath the contacts at the back of the carrier.
2. Take a damp cotton swab (use water only!) and wipe along the bottom of the shiny metal piece. Note: You may need more than one swab.

# Reinstall the cartridges, making sure you snap them correctly into the printer.

Hope this help. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!

Code Error 79:04, 86:01 y 81:01

79:04: Check the usage and expiry dates on the printheads to start with. Have you refilled them with third-party ink? Even if you have before and haven't gotten this message, your printer might have just picked up on it. Particularily, if you have recently done a firmware upgrade.

Try taking out your printheads and see if it boots up. If it does, then there is a good chance that it's a printhead related issue. Once again, check the expiry dates.

If the error persists, try to re-seat your formatter if you have one.
Try restarting the printer with no printheads or cartridges or media and insert them one by one.

If the error comes up with one specific printhead or cartridge, you may want to replace it, expired or not. And replace it with an HP product designed for your specific printer.

Damage done by third-party products will not be covered by original warranty, or extended.

Final suggestion, is look at the conteacts on the back of the printheads. Are they dirty with ink or grime? What about the contacts in the printer. If they are, I would suggest using a SLIGHTLY damp coffee filter and gently wiping up and down until they are clean. DO NOT wipe horizontally or in circles. It may cause scratches to the contacts which could further damage them. Wipe them vertically with a DRY coffee filter, or allow them to completely air dry before re-inserting them. Before you re-insert them, reboot the printer with nothing in it, and insert them one by one.

For any further assistance, I suggest phoning HP Technical Support.

Best of luck.

Black dots of ink all over my pics.

Hi,

On most inkjet printers there is a small squeejee which wipes of excess ink from the printer head, this is usually done where the printer head parks itself while it is standing by.

I am 99% the below steps are safe as I have done it to my printer dozens of times.

while the printer is off, pull the head across so that you can see the condition of the parking position. look with a torch to see if there is ink splattered everywhere.

if there is ink everywhere use pure alchol with long cotton buds and clean

let me know how is goes
