Adding more ram

Hello, I am the technician that will be assisting you today. My name is Norman-Wynne Damstra. Welcome to Fixya, Judy Hartzell.

RAM can be increased to the maximum supported by your operating system.

Windows 32bit: maximum that it can make use of is 3.85GB of RAM.
Windows 64bit: maximum that it can make use of is Over 24GB of RAM.

Find your version including bit by checking your computer specifications. Right click on Computer/My Computer in the Start menu and click properties.
Another way is to check what is written on the Windows CD that came with your computer.

As far a mainboard limit supported is concerned, rule of thumb is 2GB per Slot. Therefore if you have two slots 2X2GB should work.

You will want to install the fastest RAM modules possible in your computer system. DDR3 1333MHz will do fine, both modules should be the same frequency.

As a note your Processor is the single core CPU from AMD, for a performance upgrade it may be better to upgrade the CPU to an AMD Athlon2 X2 250.

Take care!

A suitable graphics card will help your computer system display better graphics. You will need a graphics card and maybe you could do with at least 1GB of RAM.

I want to upgrade from a AMD Sempron processor 2800+ 1.6GHz 192MB to a faster AMD processor with more RAM. I have an Acer 3002LC laptop. Can you advise me what CPU will support this...

My advice to you is to purchase a faster/newer laptop.

A new processor plus labour to install the CPU will cost a substantial amount of money and the performance gain will be marginal. Also RAM bottle neck come into affect as 192mb of RAM is not going to cut it, now-days you need at least 2GB of it. I myself prefer AMD their new AMD Athlon 2 X2 CPUs perform really well.

Though i have mother-board which has inbuilt Graphic of 256MB i am not able to play games with high graphics, i have Asus-M2N68-AM, with AMD-LE1640, and 2GB Ram, Could u please solve the problem

Hello,

The built in graphics on motherboards are ok for drawing programs and such but not for high speed animation and graphics that games require. You need to get a add on card for your system either, be sure to get a card with a graphics set that is supported in your game.

I would first try to upgrade your ram, i wouldnt want to touch a computer with less than 1GB of ram, and your only running 1/2 of that and playing a FPS game. Try to get another GB of ram, Newegg.com is a great place to shop for good prices and excellent customer service. If you only have 2 slots on your motherboard, you will have to take the 256mb chips out to replace them with larger ones. If that is the case, try replacing one of them with a 1GB stick.

Hi,

Sorry to tell you this but this laptops video card is permanently attached to the mother board. So upgrading to a new one is no possible.
