Question about Whirlpool ATW4475VQ Washer

Open Question

My new Admiral ATW4475VQ from Home Depot does not fill rapidly. In fact, the water flow in is so slow there is only about 3" of water in 15 minutes! I check the lines and the flow is fast up to the machine. Clearly there is blockage on both hot and cold lines. There appears to be a screen at the input. Should that be removed to increase flow? If so, how? I tried to pull it out and could not.and didn't want to break it.

SOURCE: Rinse cycle water flow slow

This problem is commonly attributed to a water inlet valve (also known as a "mixing valve") that is going bad. The water may appear to flow better during the intial fill cycle, because BOTH solenoids (HOT and COLD) are typically used during the initial FILL cycle. However, nearly all washers use a cold water RINSE. This means only one solenoid is energeized during the rinse cycle which reduces the water volume even more.

If you live in an area that has hard water, or if you use well water, the inlet valve and/or fill hose sediment screens can become clogged with sediment, calcified deposits and rust resulting in a restriction of water flow. You can try cleaning the sediment screens and the water inlet valve in a 50/50 solution of distilled vinegar and hot water to see if you can dissolve any sediment or deposits. Removing the valve from the washer and allowing it to soak in the solution for about 30 minutes, then flushing it with clean water can sometimes return an inlet valve to normal operation. If cleaning the valve does not work, however, you will need to replace it. The following link explains how:

Replacement parts (if required) can be purchased at any of the following web sites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

Prices will vary between sites so shop and compare. The first three sites on the list have helpful exploded view diagrams to assist you with locating and properly identifing any parts you may need. If the model number you listed this question under is correct, the Water Inlet Valve number is 285805 and is listed as item 18 under the "Controls and Rear Panel" parts listing. The average price is less than $20.

If you have any questions, or if your model number is different, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

SOURCE: very slow cold water fill, why?

First make sure that you have adequate water flow from the hose bib coming from the wall. You can do this by turning off your cold water connection at the wall, then disconnect the cold water hose. Then turn the faucet on and make sure the water flows freely. The most common reason for your problem is a clogged screen where the cold water hose connects to the back of the washer. To check this, disconnect the cold hose from the back of the washer and clean the small screen inside the cold water inlet on the washer.

Giro plus - red light flashes rapidly, tried priming with no success. Anyone have any answers?

Have you tried draining off some back-pressure. That often is what the rapid flash means. Try pushing the hot water button then opening the steam valve. A few seconds after the pump comes on to push water out, the red light should go off. If it takes more than a few seconds, that's probably not the problem. hope this helps.

Slow water fill up

Take the hoses off the back and turn water valve back on to see if flow comes out of hoses ok-if pressure is good, check filters inside end of hose.

The ice maker dose not fill up with water.

Have you checked/changed your water filter? A bad water filter will stop/slow the flow of the water to your ice maker. Are you still able to get water from the dispenser? If you are, then it could be a bad ice maker, or the fill tube could be frozen, which is the main tube where the water comes in. This could also be a bad water valve inlet.

It's impossible to tell. from your description.

Usually a new washer is set up with new hoses. If the installers aren't complete idiots that should be good.

You can look at where the water lines come out of your wall and make sure it isn't wet there.

You could also test the water pressure at your house and make sure it isn't extremely high. Sometimes these new units can't take overly high water pressure.

Good Luck!

The toilet isnt flushing and water is not filling into the cistern? (at the top) how do i fix this problem??

If I understand correctly, the tank that holds water is not filling up with water.

1) If this is the problem, then you need new toilet fill valve.
Or clean sediment out of existing fill valve by removing and soaking in CLR calcium rust lime.

To replace fill valve:
Look at water supply line coming into tank.
Supply line connects to fill valve.

Buy new fill valve at home center, hardware store, or walmart, or online.
There are two nuts connected to valve. Each nut has companion rubber washer

One nut & washer seal water supply line to tank.
Second nut & washer seal valve to tank.

2) If water tank is full of water, but water does not flow rapidly into bowl when you push flush lever, then your toilet is clogged with sediment.

To solve sediment problem when flush water will not flow rapidly into tank, then buy CLR calcium lime rust.
Pour CLR down into overflow tube located inside water tank.
Make a funnel by cutting off bottom of water bottle, or cut paper cup into a funnel.
Pour cup-full after cup-full of CLR into overflow tube until sediment and CLR are coming out all flush holes located under-rim on bowl.

3) Add a comment for more free help.
Also take advantage of fixya phone service.
For a price, expert speaks with you over phone while you work on timer or any do-it-yourself project.
Fixya is always less expensive than a service call.

Machine fills too slowly and continues to fill in whole cycle

Remove the water filler hoses at the machine and test the flow of each one. If very slow, check the inlet screens on the faucet ends for plugging and make sure the faucets furnish full flow. The hoses themselves can sometimes become restricting of flow--replace them if so. Next, check the inlet solenoids on the machine for proper flow and shutoff when the power to them is stopped. They may or may not be cleanable--replace them if they are trouble. Hope this helps!

Slow cold water flow won't go back to full flow

I think the water inlet valve is nearly stopped up with sediment in the screen filter where the supply hose screws to the valve.Cut the water off at the hose and disconnect and look for the screen. The hot water usually doensn't do this because the water has time to settle everything out while it's in the hot water heater.

Our American Standard toilet flushes ok but fills back up real slow. Very little water comes out of the hose that goes in to that tube. Can you help Thanks Howard

Okay Howard. It seems that the fill or float valve inside the toilet tank needs to be replaced. If you have a pair of channel locks / large pliers and some patience, you can do this yourself and save $ on a service call. This Solution is providing that you have good water pressure everywhere else in the house. First turn off the water on the supply line going to the tank. Flush the toilet (with the water off) to empty the tank. Take a towel / sponge / or wet vac to remove any remaining water. Remove the nut on the underside of the tank that holds the float / water supply to the tank. Now that you have the water float removed you can go to your local hardware store / Home Depot / or Plumbing Supplies Store and get a new fill valve. There are different kinds but they all do the same thing, fill your tank. I use a Fluid Master, But you may have to use one like you have. The Store will assist you. They are only about $10 - $15 Bucks or so.......Install the new float according to directions.....It is pretty simple. Insert your new float stem into the hole with the proper rubber washers and tighten carefully for a good seal. Insert the new black hose into the overflow tube and you are in business. You will have to adjust the water level to about a 1/4 Inch below the overflow tube for a good flush!!! I hope this helps you with the slow tank fill.............Joe
