To select a proper universal remote control, you should know about the number of digits to its set-up codes. There are 3 digit, 4 digit, 5 digit, 2 digit and even single digit codes, to some brand devices. After confirming this, check the sites linked here. Both the sites have set-up code list and set-up procedure to many popular brand remote controls. Check which brand remote control has set-up code/s to your device brand, and buy that one according to availability.
Brand name of the remote control isn't a matter, but it should have set-up codes in its code list, to the device brand you have.
Please note: Every new universal remote control will have set-up code list, and set-up procedure along with its pack. Never accept a remote control, that hasn't both of this. Never heard of Boston Harbor but if it has an add-on remote, the Lowes one should. Make sure it comes with new receiver.

Could you give us make/model of fan. Also need to know how many wires on your capacitor & what color goes into what slot in the switch.

Hello there, the controller seldom gets spoilt because all it does is to regulate the quantity of power which is supplied to the fan. The fan has a capacitor which regulates the quantity of power which the fan receives to determine the speed. I f the fan begins to move at a specific speed even when the regulator or controller is turned then it is an indicator that the capacitor is getting bad and therefore requires replacement.
Once you replace the capacitor the fan should function fine.

If the indicator light on your hand-held transmitter lights up when you press the buttons, it normally means it's working. The problem is probably with the UC7067 receiver in the fan. One sure way to destroy the UC7067 is to have the power going to it controlled by a dimmer switch on the wall. If this is the case, replace the dimmer switch with a standard on/off toggle or an in-wall transmitter. before you buy a new one try this
turn off the power!!
remove the fan controller and open it
you will see a big resistor (gray) resolder it - either on side is loose
or it is completly off
resistor location is r7

I have a solution for you. Call 1-866-600-FANS(3267) and give them the numbers on the side of the receiver. Example: 7067FM-22 (6+5) Variations of this receiver are used by many different manufacturers including Hampton Bay,Emerson,Minka Aire, etc... There is a web site that shows a few examples of this receiver available. http://www.fanmanlighting.com
P.S. It helps to know if your Ceiling Fan has a 2nd light above the fan or reverses direction from the transmitter.

The best place to start with would be Home Depot. Since it is only a couple of weeks old you should have no problem exchanging it. This is their brand. They have a very liberal return and exchange program which should help you out.
