But if the monitor does not light up, how am I going to do all of this????????

I will not be aBLE TO SEE ANYTHING!!!

  • palex1915 Nov 08, 2010

Sorry, that I wasn't more specific....it flashes on during the start up process for just a quick second, a couple of times....then when the computer is completely on, the monitor is completely black.

  • palex1915 Nov 08, 2010

I'm not following you? The monitor is only flashes on for a quick second, a couple of times, then it goes black/blank and stays black/blank.

  • palex1915 Nov 08, 2010

The monitor stays on, when I turn the computer on, because the light in the lower right corner is blue in color. When I shut the computer off the light on the monitor goes from blue (on) to yellow (sleep or hibernate) Does this help any?

I didn't REJECT your solution....sight asked me if I wanted to try someone else at no cost and I said yes!

  • palex1915 Nov 08, 2010

Thats right, I did not know that asking for more assistance, meant rejecting your answer. I was thinking, kind of like getting numerous bids/quotes for a job, that I would see if someone else gave the same or different answer to my problem!

This tells me something is out of sync with the machine now.

What version of Windows are you running on the computer? Let me know and I will tell you how to fix this problem.

Just reply to my answer here and I can help.

Ok you will want to turn off the computer. Then turn it on again and immediately start hitting F8 on the keyboard when you turn it on. Hit it about 1 time per second as the machine is turning on, eventually it will take you to a boot menu that has SAFE MODE, NORMAL MODE, and others as options. Select SAFE MODE and hit enter. It will boot you into safe mode...

Once in there go ahead and right click on My Computer and go to Properties. When it comes up go to the HARDWARE tab then the DEVICE MANAGER button. Find DISPLAY ADAPTERS on the list there.

CLick the + plus sign next to display adapters and it will drop them down. Click and highlight any display adapters (probably just one is there, but do this for each of them if there is more than one) and once it is highlighted just hit DELETE on your keyboard. It will pop up asking you to confirm you want to delete it, you do....

Then once they are all gone and no more display adapters are on the list go ahead and click START go to SHUT DOWN and RESTART the computer. It will come up in normal mode, find the adapter, install it automatically, and then you can reboot the computer again and you will be good to go.

    Thanks

It does not come on even at the beginning? From the way you talked before I thought it was just not coming on in windows, but (this is a direct quote from you) "monitor flashes parts of the turn on operation" ?

If it does not turn on at all, then of course you will not be able to do any of those operations..

So does it turn on at all, or does it just stay completely blank?

    Thanks
    Tim

Ya that is exactly what I thought was happening, so if you follow those instructions I gave you originally it should work. Just start from having the computer off..

Did you at least try the instructions I gave you? Did you turn it on and immediately start hitting F8 on the keyboard to see if you can get to that menu?

Does anything ever come on at all on the screen, even one image at all? Or it just stays black?

Ok it sounds like your computer is actually having problems then, it is not the monitor that is the issue, which you can confirm by plugging it back into the laptop.

It is not related to unplugging / plugging in the monitor at all, just a coincidence that has occurred but unfortunately means that your computer is having hardware troubles.

You are going to want to get with someone locally to have them diagnose the problems your machine is having, if nothing at all comes up on the screen then you have major hardware troubles here.

Please reply with your zip code if you want me to find someone in your area that can figure out what exactly is going on with your PC.

No, you can't turn on the desktop and view it through the laptop unless you set that up prior to your desktop having problems. Your desktop is not fully booting up I can assure you of that, something is wrong with the machine.

I am looking for someone in your area to fix this.

Toshiba Satellite L455-S5000 monitor blackout but works w an external monitor

This is a tricky situation, any fluid that ends up inside can cause a cascade effect, hours, days, weeks and even months before the full efects are known. You could end up changing the screen and down the road face major failure in the motherboard. Under the circumstances I would consider a laptop replacement.

Laptop monitor blacks out but works fine with an external monitor

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LEDflashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faultyinverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Hook up that monitor to another laptop or computer. If it works then its an issue with the vga port on your laptop. If the monitor still shows those lines then you know for sure the monitor is bad and it will have to be replaced.

I have been using my Iogear kvm switch for almost 2 years now to switch between a desktop and a laptop, both Windows XP. I unplugged the laptop in a hurry to go do a presentation, and plugged everything...

This almost sounds like the display setting on your laptop was changed to an external device. Most laptops are designed to be hooked up to an external display, such as a monitor or projector, specifically for presentations. You can alternate the display options in the following ways:

  1. Laptop display only
  2. External display only
  3. Laptop+External clone
  4. Laptop display + extended desktop on external display (dual monitor setup)
Check your laptop display settings and make sure that it's not in presentation mode (options 2-4) before connecting the KVM switch to it. It may be recognizing the KVM switch as an external display in option 4 mode.

Fujitsu c series labtop screen goes blank, the hooked up to a monitor, starts to work then says out of frequence and goes blank

The video resolution and/or frequency that's set in windows is not supported by the monitor you have plugged in. Restart the PC in VGA mode (hit F8 after the BIOS messages but before any Windows messages) and change the video settings to something basic, such as 800 x 600 @ 60 Hz. Then restart the machine normally.

Black screen, White blinking line on bottom of Monitor

During the move was your laptop dropped or bumped ? If so you might of unseated the video adapter from your laptop. Have you tried another monitor? I wouldnt rule the monitor as the problem. Try another monitor. If you have more questions or problems feel free to get back to me and I will do my best to talk you through a solution.
